UPDATE: WFTV HAS REDACTED THEIR REPORT AND REMOVED THEIR STATEMENT ABOUT FIREFIGHTERS ASSISTING WITH THIS EVACUATION.
Disney World and Disneyland roller coaster ride breakdowns or malfunctions are, unfortunately, extremely common in the Disney theme parks (and they’re only going to become more common, according to this Cast Member). However, sometimes more serious malfunctions happen that require formal rescues!
Not Your Average Elevator
One such rescue has reportedly just finished on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride that is located within Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Apparently, almost 30 people were trapped in the ride’s elevator.
Since the elevator is part of this particular ride, and not just a regular elevator, Tower of Terror elevator malfunctions could potentially mean far more hazards than a simple wait in an office building elevator — especially when at least 28 people are trapped in one space together!
To Rescue or Not to Rescue?
According to WFTV, “all guests were safely evacuated from the ride and no one was injured while the ride was down.” In addition, the Reedy Creek Fire Department reportedly “said it did not respond to the ride to help with the evacuation.”
However, according to Gotta Go Orlando, “earlier today, WFTV reported that Reedy Creek Fire Department have today, Friday, August 18, responded to a 911 call at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.”

UPDATE: Journalist Ashley Carter also posted the Tweet shown below, stating that “Guests were evacuated by cast members (standard). The fire department did not assist in the evac, so no one was ‘rescued.'”
