It pays to know people in high places!
Ride breakdowns are part and parcel of the Disney experience. Every Disney Guest knows the experience of their favorite Disney Park ride being unavailable, and some even have had the ride breakdown while on it. Breakdowns in any of the Disney Parks are routine and frankly inevitable, especially when a Theme Park gets as many visitors as any of the Disney Parks do. Recently one special Disney Guest suffered a breakdown while on a ride, and the events that unfolded after left many rolling with laughter.
May the Force Be With You!
Star Wars is one of the most popular franchises at any Disney Park with Rise of the Resistance, an attraction where Guests can “Join the Resistance in an unforgettable battle against the First Order on this exciting ride,” being one of its most popular. It has seen unbelievable wait times and is a ride to which many Disney fans flock. It’s found both at Disneyland Resort as well as at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Rise of the Resistance Breaks Down with ‘Phineas and Ferb’ Co-Creator On It
KTLA5 reported that Phineas and Ferb co-creator Dan Povenmire and the members of his show went to “The Happiest Place on Earth” in late June. The popular Rise of the Resistance attraction in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge broke down and suffered a ride malfunction and documented the moment sharing it on TikTok.
However, this wasn’t your standard ride breakdown because when the ride malfunctioned and left the group stuck, Povenmire decided to go straight to some of the head honchos to rectify the situation. He Facetimed Scott Trowbridge, senior creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, to solve the problem.
Povenmire and Trowbridge are college friends, and in the TikTok video, Povenmire stated that Trowbridge oversees “all the Star Wars stuff at Disneyland.” He also shared snippets of their conversation when he jokingly complained about the ride being temporarily unavailable.
Trowbridge responded humorously by re-directing Povenmire’s complaint to an R2-D2 toy. Povenmire was stuck on the ride for 45 minutes but also clarified in the comments section that Cast Members fixed the problem in about 15 minutes.
It’s certainly one of the more unique ride breakdown situations we’ve heard of!
