Travis Kelce Wants To Replace Dwayne Johnson As America’s Favorite Athlete Turned Actor

All in all, you’d have to say that Travis Kelce has had a pretty good last 12 months. The year started for him by winning Super Bowl LVII with the Kansas City Chiefs. It was his second Super Bowl win with the team and propelled him to fame outside of football.

Kelce hosted Saturday Night Live and found himself doing commercials for Pfizer, Experian, Statefarm, and Campbell’s Chunky Soup. His podcast, New Heights, which he hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce, became America’s number one sports podcast.

He followed that up with a victory in Super Bowl LVIII, making the Chiefs the first team in nearly two decades to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.

But Travis Kelce’s best move of the last year was scoring a date with Taylor Swift, which he quickly turned into a relationship. He is now recognizable to every Swiftie in America and has become America’s most famous football player.

One would think that Travis Kelce would be content with his life, but he has bigger plans. He wants to supplant Dwayne Johnson as the most famous athlete turned actor, and Travis has already put the wheels in motion.

Kelce signed with CAA to work with their television and movie agents in May. He already had a reality show, Catching Kelce, but he has bigger designs for becoming a movie star and eventually a mogul like Johnson.

Kelce’s business partner, Andre Eanes, said:

We positioned Travis to be world-famous, we didn’t know how it would happen, or when it would happen, or what would help push that further along. But it’s always been the thought in the back of our minds.

And all that was before he started dating Taylor Swift. Now, with his new relationship. Kelce has become the most famous football player in the world, more so than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes or former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Ryan Schinman, CEO OF Mayflower Entertainment, a marketing consultancy, said:

Going into this season pre-Taylor, Travis was already one of the most marketable players because of his athletic prowess as well as his personality. That’s only heightened because of his global exposure being with Taylor, so now he is probably the most famous person in the NFL, and one of the most famous athletes in the world. All eyes are on him not just as a football player, but as a celebrity. He’s one of the biggest celebrities in the world.

Potential Issues With Kelce

The journey has not only made Travis Kelce famous, but his brother, Jason Kelce, is quickly becoming legendary for his antics. But his mother, Donna Kelce, and father, Ed Kelce, are also becoming famous.

But with this fame comes scrutiny of his behavior. In front of 123 million people watching the Super Bowl, Kelce shoved his coach, Andy Reid. After the game, both Reid and Kelce said everything was fine, but it wasn’t a good look.

During the parade and after the game, Travis Kelce was visibly drunk and drinking in public. While he did not hurt anyone, there is potential backlash if he is looking for bigger things.

But having said all that, Dwayne Johnson came from World Wrestling Entertainment and has since returned to the ring. He made people forget about all that and become the biggest movie star in the world. He became the voice of Maui in Moana (2016). 

Kelce will have an easier transition into the entertainment world coming from the NFL. And having a relationship with the most famous woman in the world, Kelce has a built-in fan base that will come to see every movie he’s in. That’s the power of Taylor Swift. 

And it will continue as long as they stay together. But that’s a different story.

At 34, Travis Kelce has his eyes on something bigger than just being a tight end in the NFL, and he has set everything in motion to conquer entertainment once his playing days are over.
