Wind’s in the east. Mist comin’ in. Like something is brewin’, about to begin.
Okay, so technically, this time, the wind is coming in from the West. But with hurricane season officially beginning in Florida, anything is possible. Summer is the busiest time of the year at Walt Disney World Resort. However, it is also the time of year when rain is almost guaranteed nearly every day. Hurricane season means lots of humidity, lots of rain, and a good chance of thunder and lightning. Hurricane season isn’t a guarantee of an actual hurricane hitting Walt Disney World, but it does mean some wild weather.
On May 31, The National Hurricane Center reported that a weather system was heading toward Florida. There would be strong winds, rain, and potential flooding in the middle and upper parts of the state. Thankfully, they also said that there was a less than ten percent chance that the storm system would develop into an official tropical storm.
However, the weather gods decided to take that prediction and throw it out the window.
On June 1, The National Hurricane Center said that the storm system was now Tropical Wave Invest 91-L. There is now a 70% chance that the system will form into a tropical storm or tropical depression. That 70% remains steady for the next week. The storm is currently moving north, but is expected to take a southern turn over the weekend. Flooding and severe weather are still being anticipated for the Orlando area over the weekend.
2pm Update now has a high chance of tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico. Percentages have gone from 50 to 70.

If you are headed to a Walt Disney World theme park this weekend, it is important to keep your eye on the weather. Should heavy rain hit the area, many of the outdoor rides and attractions will shut down. Outdoor nighttime events — like Fantasmic! — will also be canceled if the weather is too severe. Disney wants to keep both Guests and Cast Members safe during these storms.
Be sure to check your My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date ride and attraction closures and weather updates.
