Everyone knows that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Elon Musk are having a bit of a bro fest. When he decided to launch his Presidential Campaign, DeSantis did it on Twitter Spaces, which turned into a disaster. And DeSantis has returned the favor, signing two laws that help Musk’s businesses. Governor DeSantis made it harder for anyone injured or killed on Musk’s Space X to sue him, and just this week signed a law that banned direct-to-consumer sales of cars, except for Telsa.
And now it seems that Musk is returning the favor by underhandedly messing with one of DeSantis’ biggest enemies, the Walt Disney Company. Twitter has been placing Disney ads for movies, television shows, and Disney Parks next to Neo-Nazi propaganda that has been allowed to remain on Twitter.
Since Musk took over Twitter, the site’s content moderation has been a disaster after Musk made massive cuts to the team, whose job was to ensure that disinformation and hateful rhetoric did not make it onto the site. Since Musk made those changes, hate speech has skyrocketed, and several major brands have left the platform, causing revenues to plummet. Group M, the world’s largest advertising agency, labeled Twitter “high risk” for advertisers citing its concerns over people paying for blue check marks to impersonate high-profile individuals and Twitter’s lack of staff to police the site.

Alejandra Caraballo, a Civil Rights attorney and Clinical Instructor at the Harvard Law School Cyberlaw Clinic, found dozens of ads from companies like Disney and Disney-owned ESPN next to Neo-Nazi and terrorist propaganda. Caraballo told Business Insider:
I was seeing ads appearing on my feed right above posts from White Lives Matter California, edia depicting hateful imagery. I noticed clips were being uploaded by verified accounts, And I wondered how prevalent this was on here, so I just decided to search for it on Twitter. Sure enough, when I was searching for it, I thought: ‘you’ve got to be kidding me.’ There are literal ads appearing right below all of this content.
This isn’t the Walt Disney Company’s first run-in with Neo-Nazis. Last week, a group of Neo-Nazis protested outside the Walt Disney World Resort. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has yet to comment in the nearly nine days since the incident. Florida has since had an increase in Neo-Nazi, anti-LGBTQ+, and antisemitic activity over the past three years, and Gov DeSantis has made very few comments to stop it.

This white supremacist hate speech has also affected other advertisements on the social media platform, including Adobe, Microsoft, and the NBA. These hate groups have shared videos, an antisemitic film, and neo-nazi propaganda alongside ads for Disney Films.
