Disney Cruise Line has issued an urgent notification, informing thousands of guests about a significant alteration to their vacation plans.
Starting today, those aboard the Disney Treasure – which departs from Port Canaveral today – will see their itinerary change unexpectedly. The disruption comes after the port in San Juan, Puerto Rico, notified Disney that the originally scheduled berth for the ship is unavailable due to ongoing construction.
Past Disruptions
This isn’t the first time Disney Cruise Line has had to adjust its voyages at the last minute. Over the years, Disney has encountered various obstacles – including natural disasters, political unrest, and even high-seas rescues – that have forced the company to rethink its plans.
Last November, several Disney cruises had to be rerouted due to civil unrest in New Caledonia, and hurricanes have occasionally altered schedules in the past. While these issues are rare, they highlight how the unpredictable nature of travel can affect even the most magical vacations.
Despite the setback, Disney has always found an alternative solution for guests. This time around, instead of Puerto Rico, the updated itinerary now includes a stop at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
This recently developed private island destination adds to the previously planned stop at Disney Castaway Cay, meaning guests get to visit both spots in one trip. While the change may not match the original plans, it offers guests a unique opportunity to explore more of Disney’s private properties.
As a gesture of goodwill and to ease the frustration of the changes, Disney is offering each affected stateroom a $250 onboard credit. “As appreciation for your understanding of this itinerary change, we will provide each stateroom with a non-refundable, non-transferrable onboard credit of $250, which can be used only during this sailing,” the company stated in an email shared by a guest on Reddit.
The credit will be automatically added to stateroom accounts, and it can be used for a range of onboard purchases, from food and beverages to merchandise and activities.
The Disney Treasure: The Newest Disney Cruise Ship
The Disney Treasure, which debuted in December 2024, is the newest addition to Disney’s cruise fleet. The vessel is designed to offer guests a truly immersive experience, with dining options inspired by some of Disney’s most iconic films.
For example, guests can enjoy Fiesta on the High Seas, a celebration of Coco (2017), or experience the interactive Worlds of Marvel dining adventure. For a more elegant dining experience, the 1923 restaurant, named after the founding year of The Walt Disney Company, offers a refined atmosphere and delectable cuisine.
Beyond dining, the Disney Treasure is filled with entertainment options that cater to all ages. The Broadway-style shows aboard the ship include Disney The Tale of Moana, a reimagined version of the Moana (2016) story, as well as Beauty and the Beast and Disney Seas the Adventure.
For those looking for thrills, the AquaMouse water coaster offers a one-of-a-kind experience featuring a brand-new Mickey and Minnie Mouse short titled Curse of the Golden Egg. The ship also boasts a Lion King-themed lounge and the Wonderland Cinema, where guests can catch the latest Disney film releases.
