Universal Officially Changing the Original ‘Jurassic Park’ (1993)

Universal continues to expand the Jurassic Park franchise in many ways. On the film side, the series is expected to evolve again following the strong box office showing of Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), which grossed $869.1 million last summer.

While nothing has been officially announced yet, reports suggest talks for another sequel are already underway.

And on the interactive front, a different kind of project is taking shape.

Jurassic Park: Survival, developed by Saber Interactive, will invite players to a meticulously re-created Isla Nublar, just as it was last seen in the original 1993 film. The first-person action-adventure title will put them inside abandoned visitor facilities, jungle enclosures, and beyond, all inspired by original production materials from Jurassic Park.

Players assume the role of Dr. Maya Joshi (performed in motion capture by Payal Mistry), an InGen scientist who somehow failed to evacuate with her co-workers just before the park’s collapse. Armed with limited resources, she must evade dinosaurs like the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptors, and Dilophosaurus, using stealth, resources, and improvisation.

“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making,” the synopsis for the game reads.

“Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.”

What's particularly exciting about the upcoming game is that it's set just one day after the events of the 1993 film. Between that and its protagonist, it answers on a long-standing question: Who else was left behind on Isla Nublar?

At the end of Jurassic Park (1993), survivors Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, Ian Malcolm, John Hammond, and Lex and Tim Murphy escape by helicopter, and it's generally assumed that no one else was left behind (no one living anyway).

The film doesn’t linger on is the wider InGen workforce operating behind the scenes — engineers, lab technicians, field researchers — many of whom are glimpsed briefly during earlier parts of the film. Chief engineer Ray Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson) gave an evacuation order ahead of the incoming tropical storm, so audiences figured that everyone made it to the boats. But according to Survival, that's not the case, because Joshi's still there.

But Joshi might not even be the only employee who missed Arnold's evacuation order. The description on the game's official website even references “other surprising threats” beyond the park's dinosaurs, suggesting that there might be other surviving humans, whether friend or foe (or both), on Isla Nublar.
