For years, Toon Lagoon has remained one of the most colorful and unique corners of Islands of Adventure. While newer attractions and entire new lands often steal the spotlight, some of the park's original experiences continue to play an important role in the guest experience. One of those attractions is finally preparing for a comeback.

Universal has confirmed that the refurbishment of Me Ship, The Olive is scheduled to conclude on June 9, bringing an end to weeks of construction work in the heart of Toon Lagoon. The large Popeye-themed play area has been hidden behind construction walls for much of the spring, but signs now point to the project nearing completion.
For many guests, the reopening may seem like a small change. However, for families and longtime Islands of Adventure fans, it represents the return of one of the land's most recognizable landmarks.
A Classic Attraction Gets Some Attention
Me Ship, The Olive has been part of Islands of Adventure since the park opened in 1999. Designed as a massive interactive playground, the attraction gives younger guests a chance to climb, explore, and play while parents take a break from the larger thrill attractions nearby.

Unlike many modern theme park additions that focus on cutting-edge technology, Me Ship, The Olive succeeds because of its simplicity. Kids can spend a surprising amount of time exploring the ship's multiple levels, hidden corners, water features, and interactive elements.
That popularity also means the attraction experiences plenty of wear and tear throughout the year. Routine maintenance helps keep everything operating safely while preserving the themed environment that makes Toon Lagoon stand out.
Good News for Summer Visitors
The timing of the reopening is especially important.
Summer is one of the busiest periods of the year at Universal Orlando Resort, and families often look for attractions that appeal to younger children. While Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges and Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls provide major thrills, Me Ship, The Olive offers something different.
The attraction gives families a place to slow down and let kids burn off some energy between rides.

Recent reports from the park suggest that much of the visible refurbishment work is nearly complete. As construction walls begin disappearing, guests are getting a better look at the refreshed attraction ahead of its scheduled reopening.
A Positive Sign for Toon Lagoon
The refurbishment may also be encouraging news for fans who have wondered about Toon Lagoon's future.
As Universal continues investing in new projects across the resort, speculation often surfaces about whether some of the park's older areas could eventually be replaced. Yet projects like this show that Universal is still willing to invest in maintaining original Islands of Adventure experiences.

While the company has not announced any major future plans for Toon Lagoon, restoring one of the land's most visible attractions demonstrates a continued commitment to keeping the area operating for guests.
June 9 may not come with fireworks or a major ceremony, but it marks the return of a longtime favorite and another piece of Islands of Adventure history.
