Universal Studios Great Britain Could Feature ‘Ghostbusters’ Themed Land

Something strange could find its way to Bedfordshire in the U.K. But who ya gonna call? The Ghostbusters, obviously.

Universal Studios Great Britain is officially underway. Set to open to the public in 2031 (which somehow isn’t as far off as it sounds…), the resort will be a game-changer for the U.K. theme park scene — and for Europe, too (better pull up your socks, Disneyland Paris).

While not much else besides its location and year of opening has been revealed, rumors that it’s set to host attractions and themed lands based on franchises including Jurassic World and Harry Potter, which would mirror other Universal destinations. It’s also expected to introduce home-grown IPs like James Bond and Paddington. Either way, the resort will feature major franchises regardless, but exactly which ones aren’t known.

Until anything is announced, though, it’s fun to imagine what Universal Studios GB might conjure up for guests. And seeing as there are plenty of Jurassic World and Harry Potter-themed lands and attractions already in existence at Universal Studios, we think it’s time the resort brings in some untapped IPs. One that instantly comes to mind is Ghostbusters.

Ghostbusters History at Universal Studios

To say that Universal Studios is lacking in the Ghostbusters department is an understatement. While the beloved franchise did have a theme park presence in the form of the long-closed Universal Studios Florida show Ghostbusters Spooktacular, and more recently in last year’s Universal Mega Movie Parade, in the CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular, and at Halloween Horror Nights, the resorts have never featured an actual attraction, be it a dark ride or a full-scale roller coaster.

While there are rumors that Universal Studio Florida’s Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit — set to close at the end of August — will be replaced with a Ghostbusters ride of some kind, nothing has been confirmed by Universal Destinations & Experiences.

What Would a Ghostbusters Attraction Look Like?

A Ghostbusters attraction is all too easy to imagine: a re-creation of familiar scenes from the original 1984 film starring Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver, including the New York Public Library inhabited by the creepy ghost of Eleanor Twitty, Dana Barrett’s apartment where the minions of Gozer reside in her refrigerator, and the top of that apartment building dubbed “Spook Central,” which features several iconic villains such as Gozer, the Terror Dogs (Vinz Clortho and Zuul), and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

As for the themed land that would house the attraction(s), the Ghostbusters’ iconic firehouse, serving as the area’s centerpiece, would be perfect. Perhaps a staple parade, too, not unlike the Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” music video (or the intro for the 1986 animated series The Real Ghostbusters, which said-video inspired).

So, who ya gonna call? Someone at Universal Destinations & Experiences, we hope.
