However, Walt Disney World Resort is known for more than just its incredible Disney Park experience. It’s also known for its rivalry with Universal. The rivalry is one of the most intense and long-standing in the Theme Park industry. Both are known for their immersive and thrilling attractions; while both Disney and Universal are unique in their own ways, they are in direct competition for Guests’ money and for that coveted number-one spot.

Recently, Universal Studios Orlando announced they were closing their “worst ride,” as reported by The Street.

Poseidon’s Fury is a walkthrough attraction at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure Theme Park. It’s an immersive experience that takes Guests on a thrilling journey through the mythical world of the Greek gods and goddesses. Guests encounter various characters throughout the attraction, including the villainous Lord Darkenon and the heroic sea goddess Athena. The story is full of twists and turns, with plenty of surprises.

Universal Orlando has announced that as of May 9, they will be closing down the attraction. The Street argues that the move is great news for Universal and not-so-good news for Walt Disney World.

As the outlet reported, Poseidon’s Fury had been “on the chopping block” for quite some time, and “The ride’s demise, however, opens up a huge piece of land at the company’s Island’s of Adventure (IoA), which should ultimately allow the company to not add just a new ride, but a whole new themed land.”

By contrast, the outlet points out that while Disney “recently added a number of rides to all four of its Florida theme parks, it currently has no new major attractions planned.” If Universal continues to innovate and push boundaries it might just leave Disney behind in the dust, and it might prove to be problematic, to say the least, for the Walt Disney Company.
