Video: Riders See Soarin’ Suffer System Reboot

Disney Soarin' Malfunction

For everyone who has watched The Imagineering Story on Disney+, they will know it is clear that Disney always wants to make sure the rides are synonymous with technological advancements (at least, for the day they debut), from Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. But sometimes, those technologies tend to malfunction in ways that can only be described as embarrassing.

A video uploaded to Twitter by @jpalmerdubs and shared by Theme Park Insider Scott Gustin shows the POV of Disney Park Guests strapped into their seats on Soarin’s gliders while the projection system reboots itself. The Guests are then given a glimpse of the Windows software restart while the iconic Soarin’ music plays on at full volume.

This is not the first time the digital “backstage area” of new rides has been shown and there is little doubt that it won’t be the last. It is quite common for Disney World and Disneyland attractions to suffer momentary shutdowns, and if Space Mountain’s lights need to come on every now and then, so too, would these systems have to turn on and off at some point.

It should be noted that nobody appears to be injured during this incident. They simply had the chance to see a rarely-seen side of this ride.

Originally opening as Soarin’ Over California at Disney California Adventure Park in the Disneyland Resort, the magical hand-gliding experience has gone on to be added to EPCOT as Soarin’ Around the World, Tokyo DisneySea as Soarin’ Fantastic Flight, and Shanghai Disneyland as Soaring Over New Horizons. It is a favorite simulator ride of many Guests gliding through the skies at an apex of thrill and relaxation. The incident shared in this article appears to have occurred during Soarin’ Over California at the Disneyland Resort in California.
