Welcome, Foolish Mortals! As we get closer to Halloween, the 999 Happy Haunts always look for more ghosts to join them at Disney’s Haunted Mansion. Whether it be at Walt Disney World in Central Florida or Disneyland in Anaheim, the apparitions would be happy to welcome you to their realm.

But now, Disney fans have another opportunity to head to a haunted house, but not in a theme park. And this time, the ghost that you will be searching for will be none other than Walt Disney himself.

Walt Disney’s Storybook Mansion in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles is offering nighttime ghost tours of Walt’s former Woking Way home. After the home tour, guests will be treated to refreshments on the back veranda, overlooking the Los Feliz area and Los Angeles. Disney legend Bob Gurr will be on hand to speak with guests. Gurr designed the original Doom Buggies for Disney’s Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. He was also the Disney Imagineer behind the Abraham Lincoln audio-animatronic at the World’s Fair in New York.

For those guests who would instead not join the land of the dead, the home also offers daytime tours, which will only be a one-hour tour of the house.

The area around Walt Disney’s home is one of Los Angeles’ most haunted neighborhoods, including ties to several grizzly deaths and the Black Dahlia murder. The tours are October 25, 26, 29, and Halloween night. Each 1.5-hour ghost tour costs $150, and the nearly three-hour Halloween tour costs $240 per person. The tours are limited to 15 people, and all guests must be at least 16 years old and be able to physically maneuver through the home.

Disney’s Woking Way House

Walt Disney built the house in 1932 after the success of his Mickey Mouse cartoons. It took only two months for Walt’s crew to build the 6,400-square-foot home. It wasn’t hard to find laborers, as Walt was building it during the height of the Depression. The house looks exactly like a storybook cottage from one of Walt’s movies.

The home was located near Griffith Park. Walt frequently took his daughters to the Park and lamented that there weren’t enough activities for families in the area. It was this thought that ultimately inspired Disneyland.

Some of Walt Disney’s most iconic movies came out while the Disney family lived in the Los Feliz house and were shown in the family’s projection room.

After more than a decade at home, Walt had another home built on Carolwood Drive in Los Angeles, but that house has since been demolished, making the Los Feliz home the only Disney home fans can tour.

Disney’s Los Feliz home has been restored to its original 1930s state, so on your tour, the house will look precisely as Walt Disney and his family left it.

For all Walt Disney fans in the area, this is a rare opportunity to tour Walt’s former home and walk in his footsteps. Disney’s Los Feliz home is a private residence and is not normally open to the public. This is a rare piece of Disney History and an opportunity to interact with legends of Walt Disney Imagineering.

You can make final arrangements via Walt Disney’s Storybook Mansion’s Facebook page.

But remember, if we’ve learned nothing from Disney’s Haunted Mansion (2023) and the ride, it’s best not to go looking for spirits. You never know when the Hatbox Ghost may show up to claim another spirit.
