Planning a Disney vacation has always been a careful balance of timing, strategy, and a bit of luck. But for many families dreaming of a 2026 trip to Walt Disney World Resort, there’s a shift on the horizon that could change how they prepare. Some popular planning tools and options won’t be available next year, signaling a new era for guests navigating the Central Florida Disney parks.
The End of Virtual Queues
Over the past five years, Virtual Queues have become a staple of the Disney Parks experience. From TRON Lightcycle / Run to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, this system allowed guests to reserve their place for high-demand rides without physically waiting in line. Visitors would log into the My Disney Experience app at 7:00 a.m., hoping to snag a spot. For those who missed out, a second chance came at 1:00 p.m., but only if they were already inside the park.
As guest demand waned, Walt Disney World Resort began phasing out Virtual Queues. On February 25, 2025, the final two attractions that used them—Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind—switched fully to standby lines or Lightning Lane access. This means guests will no longer plan for their 2026 visits around Virtual Queues.
Though the system might make a comeback with future attractions like the upcoming Pueblo Esperanza area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park or the new Disney Villains land at Magic Kingdom Park, those expansions aren’t expected until at least 2027. For now, Virtual Queues won’t factor into Walt Disney World Resort vacations.
Family-Friendly Dining Says Goodbye
EPCOT has long been a haven for international flavors, offering family-friendly dining alongside unique beverages for adults. But starting June 4, 2025, a new dining option in EPCOT’s World Celebration neighborhood will change the landscape: the GEO-82 lounge.
This luxurious bar, themed around Spaceship Earth, will serve elevated small plates such as Truffled Ahi Tuna and Jumbo Lump Crab Gâteau alongside craft cocktails like the Brown Butter Old Fashioned and Clarified New York Sour. Advanced reservations are highly recommended and open up 60 days before your visit.
Here’s the catch: GEO-82 is exclusively for guests 21 and older. This new adults-only venue makes it one of the few non-family-friendly spots within Walt Disney World Resort. Travelers planning their trips in 2026 will need to consider whether this change fits their party’s needs.
What This Means for Walt Disney World Guests in 2026
Walt Disney World Resort is always evolving, and 2026 promises to be no different. With the removal of Virtual Queues and the introduction of an exclusive adult space, guests will have to adapt their plans and expectations.
