Mason jars, chalkboard writing, fairy lights, barbecue buffets, food trucks, fairy lights, vintage lace wedding dresses and bow ties –they’re all a huge part of the rustic, bohemian wedding trend! However, if you’re a Disney Fanatic who wants some more magical and genuine Disney princess inspiration instead of Pinterest inspiration (and who might love the glamour of these special Disney Fairy Tale Wedding offerings, but prefers something understated), then look to the wedding of Snow White actress Lily Collins for inspiration! The actress played Snow White in the movie Mirror Mirror, and she just had a small, romantic mountain wedding in Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado that somehow blended rustic trends, Victorian-era elegance, and Disney princess magic into one beautiful event! The first thing to consider for your rustic Disney wedding is location. All Disney princesses and heroines know the power of dramatic scenery: a picturesque setting like a waterfall, a mountaintop, or a wide open meadow are the perfect places for Disney princesses to spring into song or have epic moments of character development, because such enchanting places automatically add presence, significance, ambiance, and magic to whatever is taking place in the story. You only need to look at the two pictures above to see that Lily and her new husband Charlie McDowell understand the power of location and space; they’re getting their own beautiful moment in the scenery, but the amazing backdrop enhances their ceremony in a special way!

Next up is the wedding dress. The standard dresses for a rustic outdoorsy wedding are made of lace, flowy, and usually involve a flower crown or some baby’s breath in the bride’s hair. However, that’s no reason to skip something dramatic if you want your Disney princess ballroom moment! We’d suggest something that’s a ballgown like Princess Tiana’s; it’s gloriously fancy but features earthy detailings to fit her amphibious bayou wedding ceremony. You might even find that a more elegant, larger ballgown complements the scenery around you better than expected! However, if you’d like to strike a balance between the usual rustic-chic wedding dress and something unexpected (that’s also comfortable) go for something like Lily’s custom Ralph Lauren dress (which she called her “dream combination of Western Americana and British Victorian”) that was made of Calais-Caudry lace and adorned with Swarovski-beaded micro flowers as well as silk organza petals. The finishing touch for a rustic wedding that manages to be eclectic and personalized is lots of special details or bonus activities. Lily’s wedding guests clearly got the memo about dressing up to match the aesthetic of Dunton Hot Springs, and it’s always nice when everyone at the ball follows the dress code, but there also were lots of cute style choices that seemed to make Lily and Charlie’s wedding unique! We can see that there was a ‘picnic’ with vintage chairs and parasols, but it was mixed with lots of homey pillows and bowls of fruit. Instead of the usual photo booth for guests, Lily and Charlie also had the photography equivalent of a food truck!

Another great way to make your rustic-chic wedding different is through the activities surrounding the actual ceremony. Make a weekend of it with your friends (or your fellow Disney princesses, as you might call them) and try lots of new activities that take advantage of your wedding venue’s beautiful scenery! As you can see from the photo above, Lily took her friends fly-fishing in keeping with the Colorado environment. Some horseback rides and bonfires would also be fantastic ways to enhance the experience for everyone; on horseback, you’ll all feel like Merida, and fun by the fire at night will make you feel hygge feelings like Elsa and Anna playing charades!
