Robert Pattinson‘s return as the Dark Knight is taking even longer than expected.
Warner Bros. has officially pushed The Batman Part II back once again, confirming the long-awaited sequel will now arrive in February 2028 after previously being scheduled for October 2027. The announcement accompanied a first-look camera-test teaser showing Pattinson suited up once again as snow falls across a Gotham City crime scene. Watch the video below:
The Batman Part IIÂ Delayed Again
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman Part II follows The Batman (2022), which earned $772.3 million worldwide and quickly became one of the most acclaimed superhero movies of the decade. The sequel has now suffered multiple delays, having originally been slated for October 3, 2025, before shifting to 2026, then 2027, and now early 2028.
The latest delay comes during an increasingly turbulent period for DC Studios.

The DCU Struggles at the Box Office
James Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted DC Universe has already encountered its first major obstacle after Supergirl (2026), directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock, grossed only $121 million worldwide against a reported $170–186 million production budget.
Although Superman (2025), starring David Corenswet, performed considerably better with $618.7 million globally, the franchise's second theatrical release has struggled to maintain that momentum. Critics were also less enthusiastic, with Variety calling the film “super-horrendous.”
Importantly, The Batman Part II remains completely separate from Gunn's shared universe. Reeves' films continue under The Batman Epic Crime Saga, while the DCU is developing its own Batman through The Brave and the Bold (TBA), directed by Andi Muschietti (2023's The Flash).
Warner Bros. is also expanding Batman in animation, with projects including Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall, a television adaptation of Absolute Batman, and Season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader (2024) all expected before Pattinson returns.
For now, Gunn's DCU still has Clayface (2026) and Superman: Man of Tomorrow (2027) on its theatrical slate. However, with Batman's standalone universe continuing to expand while the shared universe faces its first commercial stumble, Warner Bros.' priorities may be beginning to shift.
