The 2022 Academy Awards caused a great deal of controversy and scandal when it came to Will Smith and Chris Rock — but another big controversy from Oscars night involved the live performance of the record-breakingĀ EncantoĀ song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”. The performance was considered to be disappointing overall, and now “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is getting another chance in the form of a stage performance!
While revealing the setlist for the Top 10 contestants’ Disney Night on American Idol, D23 also revealed that the record-breaking song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from the 2021 Oscar-winning movie EncantoĀ will be performed by Rhenzy and Adassa. Adassa actually voiced Dolores Madrigal in the film Encanto, and time will tell if this performance of this song receives a warmer welcome than the live performance from the 2022 Oscars did!

According to D23, American Idol‘s “host/executive producer Ryan Seacrest and judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie willĀ be talking about Bruno⦠as will all of America!” However, since the Oscars performance was lackluster and disappointed many ardent fans of the hit song, Adassa and Rhenzy’s performance of the song will already be set up for some negative reactions from viewers.

The insidious and notoriously-addictive song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was a very dark and sinuous musical number inĀ EncantoĀ (so much so that it’s actually being recommended as a Disney Park dark ride), and it featured many moving parts that are understandably hard to pull off onstage versus onscreen.

Although the song about Mirabel Madrigal’s estranged uncle Bruno broke many Disney records, several songs from the Disney movie’s soundtrack were hits with fans (including “Surface Pressure”). However, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has been unstoppable ever sinceĀ Encanto‘s premiere, so it’s not surprising that the original song from Lin-Manuel Miranda was chosen for an Oscars performance — nor is it surprising that the song is being given a second chance for a successful stage performance onĀ American Idol!
