For almost thirty years, millions of people have tuned into ABC every weekday to watch The View. The View features notable women talking about some of the hot topics of the day. They are very outspoken, each having different opinions, and arguments can (and do) frequently break out. As the world has become more polarized, so have the women on the show. Some of the most famous women to cohost The View are Rode O’Donnell, Meghan McCain, Meredith Vieira, and Barbara Walters, who created the show.
The View is currently hosted by Joy Behar, Anna Navarro, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Whoopi Goldberg. The women run the gamut in terms of social and political opinions and often find themselves at odds. And one recent political discussion led Whoopi Goldberg to stun the audience and her costars with a question you should never ask.
The women were discussing Utah Senator Mitt Romney’s decision not to run for reelection after decades in politics. Goldberg was talking when, suddenly, she interrupted her own train of thought to ask cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin if she was pregnant.
You can watch the uncomfortable exchange below.

Griffin was shocked, but did manage to laugh it off. She was worried that Goldberg was commenting on her weight, but Goldberg said that she had a “glow.” Griffin then admitted that she and her husband have been having discussions about expanding their family.
This is not the first time that Goldberg’s comments have gotten her in trouble.
In January 2022, Goldberg said that the Holocaust — a time when more than 6 million Jewish people were murdered — was not about race. Instead, she said it was about “man’s inhumanity to man.” She later apologized, saying that she had learned that while Judaism is a religion, Jewish people are also considered a race of people. She was suspended from The View for her initial comments.
Then, just about one year later, she had to apologize for racist comments again when she used the term “gypped” on air. Goldberg admitted that she did not know that the term “gypped” was in reference to a racist term created by the belief that the Romany people were thieves.
