Universal Orlando Resort is about to have a brutal February with seven different rides closed across all four theme parks, and if you're thinking about visiting next month, you seriously need to consider whether paying full price for significantly reduced experiences actually makes sense or if you should just postpone your trip.
EPIC Universe's First Theme Park Closure
EPIC Universe is seeing its very first ride refurbishment with Fyre Drill closing February 1-7. This isn't shocking since water rides always close during winter months when it's cooler and fewer people want to get soaked. The one-week closure is pretty minimal compared to some of the other stuff happening across the resort, but it's still one less thing to do if you're visiting that first week of February.
Islands of Adventure Is Getting Destroyed
Here's where things get really bad. Jurassic Park River Adventure closed on January 5, 2026 and isn't reopening until November 19, 2026. That's basically an entire year where one of Islands of Adventure's signature attractions is completely unavailable. If you're visiting literally any time between now and November, you're out of luck for this ride.
The extended closure means they're doing major work, not just routine maintenance. We're probably talking ride system updates, scene refurbishments, or technology improvements that require shutting down for months. Yeah, it'll probably be better when it reopens, but that doesn't help anyone visiting in 2026 who wanted to experience this attraction.
Then there's the Hogwarts Express closing February 9-23. This affects both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida simultaneously since the train travels between the two parks. During those two weeks, you can't use the immersive train experience to travel between parks. Instead, you have to exit whichever park you're in, walk through CityWalk, and enter the other park through its regular entrance like some common peasant who doesn't have a Wizarding World train to ride.
Universal Studios Florida Isn't Much Better
Universal Studios Florida gets hit with the Hogwarts Express closure during the same February 9-23 window. Revenge of the Mummy is also closed from January 27 through February 2, which is mercifully brief since this ride is super popular and any time it's down, tons of people are disappointed.
Illumination's Villain-Con Minion Blast closes for just one day on February 5. Nobody knows if this is fixing a problem or if something's happening that guests can't see, but at least it's only one day instead of weeks or months like some of these other closures.
Finnegan's Bar & Grill closed January 12 and stays closed through Winter 2026. Yeah, it's not a ride, but it's still one less place to eat, which matters when you're spending all day in the parks.
Volcano Bay Gets Hit Too
Even the water park isn't safe. Both Maku of Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides and Puihi of Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides are closed from January 5 through February 12. That's over a month where these water slides are unavailable.
Sure, February isn't exactly peak water park season because it can be chilly, but Florida still gets warm days when you'd want to hit Volcano Bay. Having two rides down reduces your options even during off-season visits.
Why This Matter for Theme Park Visitors
Look, one or two ride closures? That's manageable. You adjust your touring plan, hit other attractions, and move on with your life. But seven rides closed across all four Universal Orlando Resort parks throughout February? That's a completely different situation.
You're paying the exact same ticket prices you'd pay during a month when everything is operational, but you're getting significantly fewer experiences. Universal doesn't discount admission because rides are closed. You pay full price regardless of how many attractions are actually available.
Should You Actually Visit This Theme Park in February?
If you already have non-refundable reservations for February, obviously, you're kind of stuck. But look at which specific dates you're visiting and which closures affect you. Visiting before February 9? You avoid the Hogwarts Express closure. Visiting after February 12? Volcano Bay's slides are back. After February 23? Hogwarts Express returns.
But Jurassic Park River Adventure? You're screwed until November no matter when you visit in 2026.
If you're still in the planning stage without committed reservations, seriously consider whether February is the best time to visit Universal Orlando. March and beyond offer more complete attraction lineups as various closures end. Why pay full price for diminished experiences when waiting a few weeks gives you access to everything?
The cumulative effect of all these closures makes February 2026 a genuinely bad time to visit Universal Orlando Resort unless you specifically don't care about any of the closed attractions. For most guests, postponing makes way more sense.
