Universal Orlando Announces Changes to ‘Harry Potter’ Attraction at Both Theme Parks

Universal Orlando Resort has announced a temporary closure for one of its most iconic Wizarding World of Harry Potter attractions, impacting both of its theme parks. The Hogwarts Express, which connects the Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley lands, will cease operations for a short refurbishment next month.

The Hogwarts Express has been a fan-favorite since it debuted alongside Diagon Alley in 2014. The immersive train ride connects Hogsmeade at Universal Islands of Adventure with Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, offering guests a chance to relive moments from the Harry Potter films. Only available to those with a multi-park ticket, the Hogwarts Express serves as both transportation and a themed attraction.

According to Universal Orlando Resort’s official website, the Hogwarts Express will close for refurbishment from January 28 to January 31, 2025. The attraction is expected to reopen on February 1, 2025. While the resort hasn’t shared specific details about the planned updates, these routine refurbishments help ensure the attraction’s safety and quality for the thousands of theme park guests who ride it daily.

The brief closure of the Hogwarts Express comes as Universal Orlando Resort prepares to open its third theme park, Epic Universe, in May 2025. Epic Universe will feature an all-new Wizarding World of Harry Potter land based on the Fantastic Beasts films. Guests will explore the Ministry of Magic, with areas inspired by 1920s Paris up to the 1990s British Ministry.

In addition to the new Harry Potter-themed area, Epic Universe will include SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, the Isle of Berk inspired by How to Train Your Dragon (2010), and the Universal Monsters’ Dark Universe.
