Woman Refuses To Cancel Vacation for Coworker’s Family Disney Trip, Stirs Debate

A workplace dispute over vacation time has gone viral, sparking widespread debate about whose time-off requests should take priority. The conflict involved a “childless” employee who had planned her vacation months in advance and a coworker who wanted the same time off to take her family on a Walt Disney World Resort trip. The story has divided opinions online, with many defending the employee’s decision to stick to her plans.

The drama was shared on the TikTok channel and relationship advice site Your Tango (@yourtango), which recounted the events in a video that amassed tens of thousands of likes. According to the video, a woman named Evie, who is childfree, had her paid time off (PTO) approved months in advance to spend the holidays with her family. However, her coworker—referred to as Karen—requested the same days off to take her kids to Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

“Evie, who is childfree, had gotten her vacation time approved months in advance to be home with her friends and family during Christmas,” the TikToker explained. “Reasonable, right?”

Karen didn’t think so. When both requests conflicted, their boss asked Evie to give up her vacation for Karen’s Disney Park trip. According to the video, this request came just two days before Evie’s vacation was set to begin, leaving her shocked and unprepared to make any changes.

“Their boss…asked Evie to ‘find it in her heart’ to cancel so that Karen could take her kids to Disney World for the holidays,” the TikToker continued. “He made this request two days before Evie’s vacation began. She had already packed her bags and everything.”

Despite the pressure, Evie refused to cancel her plans. Her boss then forced her to explain the situation to Karen, leaving her in an uncomfortable position. Amid Karen’s protests, Evie stuck to her decision and went home to visit her family as planned.

Most commenters sided with Evie, criticizing her boss for mishandling the situation and Karen for not planning her Walt Disney World Resort vacation in advance.

“Nope. Plan ahead,” said @louiefriedrich. “Everyone deserves their vacation time.”

“Your poor planning doesn’t constitute an emergency for me,” @hazelreily23 added.

Other users noted that vacations are important for everyone, regardless of whether or not they have children.

“I had a coworker ask to switch PTO days so she could spend a holiday with her kids,” @marys0715 wrote. “I said no. She responded ‘but you don’t have kids’ I just shrugged and said ‘I have a dad. I have siblings.'”

Some commenters suggested they might have been willing to help—but only with enough notice. “2 days. No. A month in advance and you PAY me to swap maybe,” @lunanmoonwalker wrote.
