10 Amazing Facts Behind the Scenes at Kilimanjaro Safaris

9) The vehicle

You won’t find one of these vehicles being sold at a dealership. Powered by propane, the specific safari trucks used for this attraction are custom built by GMC and priced at around $100,000 each. The driver’s section and the passengers’ seats are mounted together separately, delivering a more bouncy and rugged safari-style trek for riders (especially those seated in the very back) and less impact for the driver who takes this ride for hours on end. Riders sit in rows of padded back seats eight feet above ground level and are treated to open, unobstructed views of the surrounding savanna and its resident animals. Overhead there is also a graphic representative animal key illustrating the different species you’re likely to come across along the way. Each vehicle seats up to 36 guests per voyage and is even accessible to riders with ECVs.
