Mermaid Cupcake

5. Fresh new “mer” made cupcakes

Disney Parks and Resorts around the world are famous for conjuring up brand-new magical themed treats. But this month in particular things have gotten a little fishy around Walt Disney World with two mermaid-themed cupcakes swimming onto the scene. You’ll find these new scaly yet shimmery sweets at both Main Street Bakery and BoardWalk Bakery, each location making its own signature splash. At Main Street Bakery you will find a lovely composition of vanilla confetti cake, plied with creamy green sea foam, decorated with chocolate-filled crispy pearls, and crowned with a shiny cookie-like blue-green mermaid tail. BoardWalk Bakery continued the deep dive with another Mermaid Cupcake concept. Their version comes as a vanilla cake-based morsel with pudding inside, garnished with a creamy whipped topping that’s covered in toasted coconut, topped with blue icing, and adorned with chocolate seashells and a crowning white chocolate mermaid tail. Both enticing originals get an oceanic ovation.

4. A reinvented burger at The Edison

There’s a new restaurant in Disney Springs that really turns the switch on for great dining. It’s The Edison—an industrial gothic-style establishment that follows the crafted storyline theme of being a former power plant, circa the 1920s. You’ll see nods to its former glory in the many inventive remnants worked into the décor scheme, from mechanical equipment to the imposing clock tower, and much more. And it seems that the art of inventing is still very much alive, if the innovative menu is any indication. Here you will find well-loved American classics along with signature house specialties with a twist. One creative menu item, rightfully called “the Edison Burger,” is by no means your typical burger but rather an astute upgrade comprised of beef sirloin, short rib, and brisket, topped with Cabot clothbound cheddar, crispy onions, smoked bacon, house-made pickles, tomato, lettuce, and “Edison Special Sauce.” While the meal does come with fries, another sought-after favorite the Edison is known for is their famous Electri-Fries—a culinary invention created using L. Burbank hand cut potatoes, “Edison Special Sauce,” bacon, grated parmesan cheese, and chopped green onions. Other novel concoctions here include the DB “Clothesline Candied Bacon” as a sharable that comes served hanging from a miniature clothesline and the Lollipop Tree—a dessert for two presented as cheesecake lollipops arranged in a dessert tree and served with bubble gum flavored whipped cream. In addition to dishing up impressive culinary originals the Edison is also a renowned bar and hotspot that even features lively music, performances, and entertainment during the evening hours.
