From Outdated to Overlooked: 10 EPCOT Attractions That Could Use a Reboot

Walt Disney World’s EPCOT is a park that combines the wonders of science, technology, and world cultures. Over the years, it has transformed into a must-visit destination with iconic attractions, immersive pavilions, and delectable dining options.

However, not every experience within the park has stood the test of time or aligns with what guests expect from a modern theme park. Here are ten EPCOT experiences we could do without, along with ideas for improvement.

1. The Seas with Nemo & Friends

While “The Seas with Nemo & Friends” brings beloved Pixar characters to life, its slow-moving ride and simplistic storyline may not appeal to older guests. The adjacent aquarium often outshines the ride itself, making it feel more like a waiting area than a headlining attraction.

For many, it’s a one-and-done experience. A refresh could better highlight the wonders of the ocean while maintaining the Pixar charm.

2. Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival

Though the Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival is a fun way to escape the heat, it lacks originality and excitement. The selection of short films can often be watched at home, making it less of a draw for guests who expect unique experiences in the parks.

Replacing this with a dynamic, interactive experience could better utilize the space.

3. Impressions de France (Limited Hours)

Impressions de France is a beautifully crafted film that showcases the elegance and charm of France. However, its limited hours and replacement by the “Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along” during peak times detract from its value.

The alternating schedule can confuse guests and diminish the classic film’s prominence. A permanent dual-theater setup could resolve these issues and allow both experiences to shine.

4. Living with the Land

Once a groundbreaking attraction, Living with the Land now feels noticeably outdated compared to EPCOT’s newer, more immersive experiences. While the ride offers a peaceful boat journey through greenhouses and highlights sustainable agriculture, its slow pace and dated visuals don’t quite capture the attention of modern guests, especially younger visitors.

Revitalizing the attraction with updated technology, interactive storytelling, or even a nature-based Disney IP could breathe new life into this educational experience while keeping its important environmental message intact. With EPCOT evolving rapidly, this ride is ripe for reimagining.

5. Journey into Imagination with Figment

Figment is a beloved character, but his attraction, “Journey into Imagination,” has long been criticized for being a shadow of its former self.

The outdated storyline and lackluster effects leave many guests yearning for the original version. A complete overhaul of this attraction, keeping Figment at its heart, could make it a highlight of EPCOT once again.

6. Mission: SPACE (Orange Mission)

While Mission: SPACE offers a thrilling simulation of space travel, the Orange Mission’s intensity can be too much for many guests.

The ride’s reputation for causing motion sickness deters families and leaves some guests skipping it altogether. Enhancements to the Green Mission or introducing a middle-ground experience could make this attraction more accessible.

7. Outdated World Showcase Films

Several World Showcase pavilions still feature films that have not been updated in decades. While nostalgic for some, these presentations can feel out of place in a park that celebrates innovation.

Updating these films with modern visuals and narratives that reflect contemporary culture would better align with EPCOT’s mission of global inspiration.

8. EPCOT’s Festivals Overload

While EPCOT’s festivals are a highlight for many, the park sometimes feels oversaturated with them. The nearly year-round schedule can make the events feel less special and more routine, diminishing their impact.

Introducing longer festival-free periods or unique offerings exclusive to each season could restore the magic.

Conclusion

EPCOT remains a favorite park for many Disney fans, but even the most magical destinations have room for improvement.

As EPCOT continues to evolve with exciting additions like Luminous: The Symphony of Us, addressing these areas could help the park live up to its full potential.
