Oh, Canada! Unfortunately, if you’re a fan of this not-so-far-removed country in the World Showcase within the EPCOT theme park at Walt Disney World Resort, then you might be out of luck soon. Disney has just filed a permit that suggests some big changes are coming to the Canada Pavilion!
The EPCOT World Showcase is full of amazing representations of countries (in the form of microcosms called “pavilions”) ranging from the surprisingly-underappreciated Morocco Pavilion to the potentially-overrated Japan Pavilion. The Canada Pavilion might lack the flair and pizzazz of many of the other World Showcase country pavilions, but it has also been a steadfast staple for many Disney Guests — even if they don’t toot its horn often.
Poutine, mountainous terrain, and a now-defunct short film that starred the iconic actor Martin Short all contributed to this version of Canada’s fame. Unfortunately, if this new permit is anything to go by, then change might soon be coming to the land of the maple leaves!
A permit has just been filed that connects plans for Canada with the retheming contractor MLC Theming. Disney has worked with MLC Theming many times before, and there is a portion of the permit that suggests that Canada is indeed the focus for MLC Theming this time around.
l’Hote du Canada and Le Cellier are two likely candidates for the retheming or renovations, but Disney World will have to forgive its Guests if they seem nervous about the changes! After all, we have seen many ride or attraction refurbishments become longer and longer closures for rides (case in point: Expedition Everest in the Animal Kingdom).
Canada fans and EPCOT Guests — not to mention fans of the Le Cellier menu — will most likely be keeping an anxious eye on the refurbishment schedule if retheming plans are officially set in motion further down the line!
