Spending a day in Walt Disney World can be an amazing and magical time. From morning until evening there are so many things to do that sometimes it may require a little bit of planning. Mid day is usually a good time to be a little spontaneous and do something different. Here are my top 10 ways to spend an afternoon at Walt Disney World.
10. Explore the resorts
With over 25 resorts on Walt Disney World property and each one having their own unique theme, exploring them could easily be an all day event. Narrowing it down to one or two is a great way to spend an afternoon. I would suggest choosing two that are in the same proximity of each other. Many of the resorts are within walking distance of each other or just a short bus, monorail, or ferry ride away.
9. Take a dip in the pool or hit the water park
Central Florida can get very hot during the afternoon year round. If you happen to be staying on property or have a park hopper that includes the water parks, take advantage of a warmer afternoon and go for a relaxing dip. Each resort has its own wonderfully themed pool or multiple pools. Both water parks are also themed to Disney perfection as well.
8. Grab a tasty snack
Snacking at Walt Disney World is an absolute must. You have to keep your energy level up to get through a long magical Disney day! A great way to spend part of an afternoon is to grab a delicious snack from one of the many snack carts or even some of the counter service restaurants throughout the parks. Find a nice shady cubby hole somewhere and do some good ole people watching. This is a great way to recharge that battery.
7. Search for a nook or cranny
One thing I always love doing and have for almost every WDW vacation is to search for a hidden nook or cranny. I will actually take pictures of the location and make note of it for the next trip. It is so relaxing to find that one hidden spot where you kick back, relax and take in all the wonderful smells and sounds going on around you. Great way to spend an afternoon for sure!
6. Ride the monorail
One great way to spend an afternoon at Walt Disney World, is to take a trip on one of the more unique modes of transportation in the Kingdom, the Monorail! Originally built as an attraction in Disneyland the WDW Monorail system is used primarily as a mode of transportation, however it is definitely an attraction as well. Hop on the Epcot loop and enjoy some amazing scenery or ride the resort loop and check out one of the 3 resorts that the Monorail makes stops at.
5. Do some shopping
Shopping at Walt Disney World is so much fun and is a great way to spend money on an afternoon. There is so much special and exclusive merchandise available that it can be a daunting task narrowing it down to just a few items. I’ve recently started a pin collection and my wallet is not a happy camper. There’s just so many!!
4. Stroll around Downtown Disney/Disney Springs
Strolling around Downtown Disney, soon to be Disney Springs, is a great way to spend an afternoon at Walt Disney World. There are so many wonderful places to shop, eat and for the of age folks, grab an amazing adult beverage. There is also an awesome bowling alley and movie theater…so many choices of things to do to spend an afternoon.
3. Catch an afternoon show or parade
Walt Disney World has some of the most talented cast members who put on some amazing shows and parades. There are so many throughout the entire resort property. Taking some time in the catch one of them is a great way to spend an afternoon. Refer to the official Disney website for locations and times.
2. Go on one of the many tours
Walt Disney World offers many tours all throughout the resort. One great way to spend an afternoon in the World is to take one of these exciting and informative tours. As we all know there is always a back story to anything that Disney does and going on these tours is a fantastic way to learn all about them.
1. Exploring World Showcase at Epcot
Epcot is one of favorite parks at Walt Disney World. I especially love World Showcase. It’s such a unique and diverse section of the park. There really is nothing else like it anywhere. It’s the closest thing to traveling the world without actually leaving the US. Each country represented has something to offer for everyone. It can be a great way to spend an afternoon at WDW and can easily spill over into the evening. By that time you mine as well hang around catch Illuminations: Reflections of Earth!!!!
These are just a few tips about spending an afternoon at Walt Disney World. You’re at the “Happiest Place on Earth” so there really is no wrong way of doing it!
