More Warnings Issued to Guests Regarding Disney World Resort Refurbishment

Guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort often find themselves encountering new experiences, as the property is frequently evolving with refreshed attractions, reimagined spaces, and exciting refurbishments. One of the most prominent projects currently underway is taking shape at the luxurious Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, a cornerstone of the Magic Kingdom Resort area.

Nestled just a monorail stop away from Cinderella Castle, the Grand Floridian remains one of Disney’s most elegant accommodations—and also among its priciest, with nightly rates stretching into the thousands. That makes any change at this nearly 40-year-old hotel especially significant for those booking a stay.

The resort is currently in the final phase of a multi-year renovation project. “The lobby’s renovation marks the culmination of the resort’s multi-year refurbishment, which has included enhanced guest rooms, refreshed dining experiences, including the Michelin star-awarded Victoria & Albert’s, Cítricos, Narcoossee’s and 1900 Park Fare, and more. ” Disney shared last month.

The central focus of this latest wave of enhancements is the resort’s grand lobby. Disney Parks Blog shared a first look at what’s to come: “As shown in the new rendering, the lobby will feature beautiful new carpeting with Victorian-inspired borders and scrollwork featuring hand-drawn florals inspired by turn-of-the-century botanical studies. Updated furnishings will blend rich finishes and brass accents with cozy, welcoming fabrics–plus a few playful touches inspired by Florida’s natural beauty and Victorian decorating trends. ”

Complementing these updates is the addition of a brand-new Lobby Bar. According to Disney Parks Blog, “Inspired by the lobby’s iconic birdcage, the bar will pay tribute to the resort’s Victorian roots with intricate woodwork, stained glass, and brass accents. You may even spot colorful birds in the stained glass and murals throughout the atrium! Opposite the bar, guests will still find the Victorian cage-style elevator that fans know and love. ”

Of course, with construction comes some temporary inconveniences. Disney has issued its familiar message of: “Pardon Our Pixie Dust,” noting that, “Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is currently undergoing refurbishment. Guests will be able to see and hear construction during daytime hours. Most Resort hotel amenities will remain available. Please allow for extra travel time.”

In addition, new guest advisories have been released. According to Kenny the Pirate, “Disney is notifying guests with upcoming reservations that access to the Grand Floridian Resort’s Main Building will be restricted for select dates. Disney shares, ‘On select nights in May, the Resort’s Main Building will be unavailable to all guests between the hours of 12:30 am and 4:30 am.’”

This Main Building restriction follows an earlier announcement that certain areas of the lobby would be temporarily inaccessible. While these overnight hours are typically quiet, Disney wants guests to be aware as the work progresses through November 2025.

One unfortunate casualty of the refurbishment timeline is the seasonal Grand Floridian Gingerbread House. Disney has confirmed it will not be returning this year due to the ongoing lobby work.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
