7 Fun Facts About Animal Kingdom's Expedition Everest At Disney World

3. Mountainous Proportions

Whereas the real Mount Everest towers all other peaks in the world, Expedition Everest’s fictional Forbidden Mountain towers all the other mountains created in the “Disney World” (Disney Parks all over the world). Imagineers constructed it so that its highest point falls just under 200 feet, keeping with the legal adherence that any structure 200 feet or more must include a blinking red light to signal low-flying aircrafts. Including such would take away from the experience, so Disney decided to keep the mountain lower than 200 feet, but only by a few inches. Forbidden Mountain was built using more than 1,800 tons of steel and 2,000 gallons of paint and stain. On a side note, when you look down at the attraction from sky view level, you will see a distinctive Hidden Mickey in the attraction’s overall shape and design.
