3. Bells of authenticity
The large Liberty Bell replica you’ll find in Liberty Square was in fact made using the same mold as the real Liberty Bell. However, there is an urban legend floating about that this bell is the actual replica of the Liberty Bell that was given to Pennsylvania at the time of the bicentennial, when each of the 50 states were gifted with such replicas. As the story goes, Pennsylvania already had the real thing and had no need of a Liberty Bell replica. So when the folks at Walt Disney World asked if they might house it in Liberty Square they agreed. In truth, Pennsylvania’s replica can be found in Allentown, and Disney World’s own Liberty Bell is an original creation cast from the very same mold. It was cast in Annecy-le Vieux, France by Paccard Fonderie and transplanted to Liberty Square via crane in time for the 1989 Independence Day Celebration.
