8 Things You Need to Know About Soarin’

Soarin

Soarin’ is the one attraction at Walt Disney World that consistently has wait times approaching triple digits. It has been down for refurbishment since January and is set to open next week as a transformed attraction – here are the eight things that you need to know!

8 – Additional Theatre – the main reason for Soarin’ being down was to allow for the construction of an additional theatre to be able to accommodate more guests to help alleviate wait times. With the busy summer season quickly approaching, guests will soon see if the additional theatre helps bring down the wait times.

7 – Refurbished Screens – part of the refurbishment also allowed Disney to replace the screens as they had aged in the 10 years since Soarin’ originally opened at Epcot in 2005. The new screens will showcase sharper projections and will allow guests to be even more enveloped in the experience.

6 – New Projection Equipment – the final improvement to the Soarin’ theatres was the replacement of the projection equipment for sharper images. We hope that the new projection equipment will also help solve the scratchiness of the old video and to fill in some of the voids from the old system.

5 – New Video – previously, Soarin’ took guests on an aerial view of sites from around the Golden State of California. However, the new video debuting at Shanghai Disneyland and coming to all of the parks features aerial views from sites around the world. The new video will be debuting on June 17, 2016 at Epcot after its world premiere at the opening of Shanghai Disneyland.

4 – Old Video Still Available – Disney purists wishing to experience one last flight over the sites of California can still experience for a very short period of time. Between now and June 17, guests can see the classic film before it gets locked away in the Disney vault!

3 – Scent-sory Experience – Soarin’ features sensors that dispense scents to coordinate with what guests are seeing visually. We don’t know what is going to be featured in the new projection, but we can’t wait to find out – we only hope that they are not retiring the wonderful smell of the orange groves of California!

2 – Interactive Queue – guests waiting in line can play interactive games to help pass the time – the game is not as entertaining as the games at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, but guests will certainly appreciate the fact that they are able to do something to help pass the time (but hopefully the new theatre makes this a rare occurrence!)

1 – Ride Time – guests definitely should consider getting a FastPass when wanting to ride Soarin’ as it is extremely popular. The other alternatives would be to arrive at the park early and head straight to get in line at rope drop. Guests can also have success riding with a short wait if they ride during Evening Extra Magic Hours.

We can’t wait to see what the new Soarin’ is like and enjoy riding it many times in the coming years. What are you most excited about?
