Actor Backs Off Claim Of Huge Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Change

No matter what time of year you visit Walt Disney World Resort, the odds are that not every ride and attraction will be open. The rides and attractions go through so much wear and tear on a daily basis, that they need to be closed every so often so Disney can fix them and get them back in tip-top shape. A lot of the time, attractions will be closed for just a few days for minor fixes. But sometimes, more extensive work is needed, and Disney is forced to keep the attraction down for months at a time.

While Disney tries to make the refurbishments happen during slow times at the Parks, that can’t always happen. Take, for example, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The popular indoor roller coaster closed in late February and will not open until sometime in the summer — one of the busiest times at Walt Disney World.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s scheduled refurbishment, while long, was first thought to be a typical refurb. However, in December, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler was accused of sexually assaulting a minor in the 1970s. Speculation then ran rampant about whether Disney would use the refurbishment to change the theme and distance themselves from Tyler.

Disney has not made a statement regarding the refurbishment; however, last week, comedian Ken Marino — who played the role of sound mixer in the ride’s pre-show video — stated that the ride was changing to feature Queen songs. Marino called into the YouTube show “Office Hours Live,” where he spoke about a number of things, including his work on the ride.

Marino’s comments quickly made the rounds, with split opinions. Some were happy to hear about the change, as the ride has been the same since it opened in 1999, and they are ready for a change. Others said that they love the ride the way it is and don’t want things to change. A third group said that Disney should not jump the gun before Tyler has been found guilty or innocent of the claims levied against him.

Now, Marino is walking back those claims, stating that he doesn’t actually know what’s going on with the attraction. Marino tweeted the following message.

I have no idea what they are changing it to. Some one said that to me at some point so then I said it. It was more of rumor than anything else I suppose. Maybe it’s gonna be the new Billie Holiday ride. Could be good.

Again, Disney has not commented on any changes that may come to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. In addition to the speculation that Queen will be taking over, there have also been rumors that the ride will receive an Incredibles makeover and even one that it will be rethemed to A Goofy Movie, with the super stretch limo taking Disney Park Guests to the Powerline concert.
