Fireworks have always been synonymous with the magic of Disney theme parks, which is why fans may be surprised to hear that one resort has decided to retire its nighttime spectacular for good.
Disney’s love affair with fireworks began in the 1950s with the launch of Fantasy in the Sky at Disneyland. This show set the standard for dazzling displays that would come to define the Disney experience. This inaugural show transformed a simple fireworks display into an unforgettable celebration, ending each day in a blaze of color above Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Today, Disney fireworks are a masterclass in entertainment innovation. Iconic shows like Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom and Disney Illuminations at Disneyland Paris showcase high-definition projections, laser lights, and synchronized soundtracks that breathe life into beloved Disney tales.
These performances not only illuminate the night sky but also turn landmarks like Cinderella Castle into vibrant canvases for captivating visual narratives, ensuring that each show is a unique celebration of Disney’s storytelling magic.

However, Disneyland Paris has announced the cancellation of Magic Over Disney, a limited-time nighttime spectacular that typically ran for a few nights in November and January.

This show, which took place in Walt Disney Studios Park—soon to be rebranded as Disney Adventure World—was a vibrant affair featuring DJ Mickey Mouse remixing classic Disney songs alongside stunning projections on the Tower of Terror. While it was a seasonal offering, Magic Over Disney garnered enthusiastic reviews, with many praising its lively atmosphere and the joy it brought to families.
For those who missed the chance to experience this festive celebration, the opportunity may not come around again anytime soon. Adding to the uncertainty, Disneyland Paris has also confirmed early park closures for five days in December, limiting guest experiences.

Currently, the resort continues to dazzle guests with two beloved shows: Disney Illuminations and the enchanting Disney’s Electrical Sky Parade, a captivating drone show set to conclude in January. Excitement is already building for a brand-new nighttime spectacular set to debut on January 10, 2025. This highly anticipated show promises to push the boundaries even further with an extraordinary mix of projections, fountains, and breathtaking lighting effects, paired with an original soundtrack that aims to leave audiences spellbound.
Other changes are heading for Walt Disney Studios Park beyond the absence of its fireworks and upcoming name change. The park debuted its own version of Avengers Campus in 2022 and will soon welcome a newly-remodelled park entrance, World of Frozen, and a ride inspired by Tangled (2010). While plenty of this news has fans excited for the future of Disneyland Paris, they also haven’t hesitated to share their dislike for Walt Disney Studios Park’s new identity on social media
