Major Disneyland Ride Closures Announced

Let’s face it: finding out your favorite Disneyland ride is closed when you arrive is never fun. That’s why it’s good to know ahead of time that three fan-favorite attractions are going down for refurbishment at the end of April.

Starting April 28, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Enchanted Tiki Room, and the Sorcerer’s Workshop will all temporarily close at Disneyland Resort. There’s no exact reopening date yet, but they’ll be unavailable at least into early May.

So what’s the reason behind the closures? It all comes down to preparation for Disneyland’s huge 70th Anniversary celebration. That kicks off May 16, 2025, and Disney is already hard at work getting everything in top shape for the big event.

The Matterhorn is a Disneyland icon, but because of its age and complexity, it needs regular updates. Whether it’s track smoothing or effects enhancements, this mountain gets a tune-up pretty often.

Meanwhile, the Enchanted Tiki Room is one of Walt Disney’s original concepts, and Disney tends to treat it with care. A quick refurbishment will likely help keep it looking (and sounding) great as the anniversary approaches.

Then there’s the Sorcerer’s Workshop over in California Adventure. It’s a quieter space but loved by animation fans. This could be a chance for Disney to refresh the space—or maybe even add some surprises.

These aren’t the only changes happening. Disney is also updating it’s a small world to include characters from Coco, and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is getting a new rotating show featuring an animatronic Walt Disney. Even Toy Story Mania is getting a mini makeover with new 70th-themed targets!

So yeah, the closures may be a little inconvenient in the short term, but they’re all part of something bigger. The 70th celebration is expected to bring back beloved parades, introduce exclusive merch and snacks, and offer some great ticket deals. It’s shaping up to be one of the biggest parties Disneyland has ever thrown.

If you’re heading to the park in late April or early May, just be sure to plan around these temporary closures. With everything else Disney is adding, there’ll still be plenty to enjoy!

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
