The transformation of Muppets Courtyard has begun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Sadly, as the demolition progresses, it seems that some of the area’s historic elements have been removed—perhaps permanently. The iconic land is now a shadow of its former self, with remnants of the Muppets’ magic slowly being replaced by construction walls and heavy equipment.
Muppet*Vision 3D, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, and PizzeRizzo all made up the Muppets Courtyard, which officially opened in 2016. The phased closure began earlier this year, and its final guest was welcomed on June 7, 2025. For longtime fans, the closure of Muppets Courtyard marks the end of an era at Walt Disney World Resort, as the land has long been home to Jim Henson’s final major project: Muppet*Vision 3D (the attraction opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios much earlier, in 1991).

The transition started in earnest after D23 Expo 2024, where rumors spread about the potential closure of Muppets Courtyard to make room for a new Monsters, Inc. (2001) land. After Walt Disney Imagineering released early concept art for the area, Disney Parks fans hoped that the neighboring Animation Courtyard would be chosen for the closure instead.
However, Walt Disney World Resort later announced that Muppets Courtyard would be closing to make way for the new attraction, disappointing some longtime Muppets fans. Although Imagineering assured guests that the Muppets experience would live on in some form, details about that plan remain scarce.

Last week, a TikTok user named @callifaithg recently provided a sneak peek of what’s left of the Muppets Courtyard. The TikToker’s image shows construction equipment scattered across the courtyard and bricks lying haphazardly on the ground, while the iconic Miss Piggy fountain is conspicuously absent. While some traces of the Muppets area, such as the PizzeRizzo sign and colorful murals, are still visible, much of the nostalgic space is now gone.
Concept art for the upcoming Monsters, Inc. area, which will replace Muppets Courtyard, confirms that some of the existing buildings and the Muppet*Vision 3D theater will be repurposed for the new land. In fact, the space once occupied by Muppet*Vision 3D is slated to become “The Glob,” a family-friendly attraction inspired by the world of Monstropolis.

While the Muppets may be leaving one corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, they aren’t gone for good. In 2026, Rock’ n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will close for a retheme inspired by Muppets Mayhem, the Disney+ series. This project offers a glimpse of hope for fans worried about the complete disappearance of Jim Henson’s beloved characters from Walt Disney World Resort.
