Universal Studios GB Could Host TMNT Themed Area Modeled Off 1987 Cartoon

Universal Studios Great Britain, announced earlier this year, is gearing up to become the U.K.’s most ambitious theme park destination. Slated to open in Bedfordshire in 2031, the resort promises to bring some of the world’s most beloved franchises under one roof.

Although official details about its attractions remain under wraps, industry buzz and insider rumors hint at potential attractions and/or lands dedicated to franchises such as Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, and James Bond.

With such a star-studded lineup expected, fans are already imagining the possibilities—and one exciting idea is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) themed area.

While there aren't even any rumors swirling, it’s easy to see why TMNT would be a perfect fit. The franchise’s enduring popularity, especially the vibrant 1987 animated television series, still holds a special place in pop culture. That show, with its bright colors, catchy theme song, and memorable characters, introduced the Ninja Turtles to mainstream audiences and sparked a global craze known as “Turtle Mania” during the early ’90s.

A TMNT ride, or better yet, an entire themed land, based on the incredibly popular 1987 cartoon could tap into the nostalgia of older fans while introducing a new generation to the heroes in a half shell. Imagine a blend of immersive rides, interactive experiences, and themed dining (yes, lots of pizza) inspired by the Turtles’ adventures in New York City.

Universal’s knack for creating detailed, immersive environments could bring the NYC sewers and the bustling streets where the Turtles battle Shredder and his Foot Clan to life like never before.

While the '87 series has been superseded by numerous iterations over the past few decades, its influence still holds strong, having inspired in full the 2022 arcade-style beat 'em up game “Shredder's Revenge” and IDW Publishing's ongoing “Saturday Morning Adventures” comic books.

While the full lineup of attractions remains speculative, Universal Studios GB is shaping up to be a major draw for fans of all ages.

The resort’s opening, planned for 2031, will mark a significant new chapter in U.K. entertainment, and if TMNT makes the cut, it would surely add a uniquely colorful and fun dimension to the park’s offerings.

It's worth remembering that, a long time ago, the Turtles made an appearance at Disney World. During the height of Turtle Mania in the '90s, there was a TMNT stage show complete with costumed characters in the New York area of Disney’s MGM Studios (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios). The show ran from 1990 –1996 before disappearing forever.

Here's hoping they make a comeback at the U.K.'s upcoming resort.
