Disney Pulls the Plug on Kid-Favorite Event at Disney World This Week

If you visited Walt Disney World over the past few months, you probably noticed something unusual: the kids were running the show. Music blasted across the parks, DJs kept the energy alive, and young guests were treated to a special lineup of games, meet-and-greets, and hands-on fun.

That event—known as Cool Kid Summer—became a surprise hit with families. But as quickly as it arrived, Disney is shutting it down. The entertainment, crafts, and discounted perks will vanish at the end of this week .

A Summer Built for Kids

This wasn’t about thrill rides. Instead, Disney carved out experiences just for children. EPCOT turned CommuniCore Hall into a game zone hosted by Goofy. Over at Animal Kingdom, families explored conservation projects and joined sing-alongs. Hollywood Studios gave kids a chance to craft, dance, and meet Disney Junior stars, while Magic Kingdom embraced mini-parties like Pluto’s circus bash and Stitch’s galactic dance-off.

Everywhere you looked, something lighthearted was happening—and kids loved it. Parents appreciated it, too, because it kept little ones engaged without the long lines.

What Made It Stand Out

The spontaneity was the magic. Characters appeared without warning, magicians and stilt walkers added surprise moments, and the parks felt alive in ways not tied to a major attraction. Disney even made the deal sweeter with half-off kids’ tickets and Florida resident discounts, making the experience more affordable than most seasonal offerings.

Time’s Up

Unfortunately, Disney always billed Cool Kid Summer as temporary. On September 1, the event officially ends, leaving behind a gap for families who saw it as one of the most refreshing additions in years.

There’s no word on whether it will return, but if Disney wanted proof that smaller-scale events could leave a big impression, this summer provided it. For now, families have just days left to enjoy the kid-centric celebration before it disappears.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
