New ‘Jurassic Park’ Sequel Won’t Use Movie CG or Animatronics

Universal isn’t done experimenting with dinosaurs — but after Jurassic World Rebirth failed to reignite the franchise from a critical standpoint, the studio’s next Jurassic Park project might be the redemption fans have been waiting for. But it comes with a twist.

Rebirth might have grossed over $850 million worldwide, but where the film promised a grounded return to the tone of the original 1993 film by Steven Spielberg, it instead delivered another chaotic, poorly written CGI spectacle. Fortunately, “Jurassic Park: Survival” is taking the opposite approach: smaller, smarter, and infinitely more terrifying.

Set immediately after the events of the first film, it follows Dr. Maya Joshi (Payal Mistry) — a lone InGen scientist stranded on Isla Nublar after the park’s collapse. There are no rescue teams, no tourists, and no sequels to set up. Just you, the jungle, and creatures that never stopped hunting. The catch? Well, it's a video game. But that's not a bad thing.

What sets the upcoming first-person action-adventure apart isn’t its story, but its technology. The dinosaurs here aren’t scripted animations — they’re powered by adaptive AI that tracks sound, sight, and even player decision-making, which already has fans drawing comparisons with Creative Assembly's 2014 survival horror “Alien: Isolation”.

The official website for the game states that every dinosaur on Isla Nublar is “reactive” and has “their own distinct and adaptive behaviors”. Interestingly, it also adds that “other surprising threats” and “wildlife” will adopt these features. Exactly what is meant by those two descriptions is unclear, but we know that everything that's alive on Nublar won't be a mindless monster like the creatures that populate the latest film in the Jurassic film series.

After years of disappointing sequels, “Jurassic Park: Survival” is reintroducing the one thing the film series has certainly lost along the way — terrifying dinosaurs. And with that, intelligence. This will undoubtedly make for a truly authentic Jurassic experience, especially as the game is also re-creating familiar set pieces from the 1993 film, including the infamous kitchen where Lex (Ariana Richards) and Tim (Joe Mazzello) hid from two velociraptors. Those dinosaurs were smart enough to figure out how to open doors — now let's see what the prehistoric inhabitants in the new game will be able to do.

“Jurassic Park: Survival” will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
