A United Kingdom family visiting Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park has shared their gratitude after cast members responded to a frightening medical situation involving their toddler daughter. The parents credit Disney personnel with providing critical support during one of the most terrifying moments they've experienced as a young family.
The incident unfolded during a performance of Festival of the Lion King, the beloved Broadway-style theatrical production that celebrates Walt Disney Animation Studios' classic 1994 film. Reddit user u/52weektransformation posted about the experience on Monday, December 15.
What Happened Inside Harambe Theater
The family had been enjoying the show with their two-year-old daughter when the situation took a sudden turn. The little girl had been actively participating in the performance moments before the emergency began.

“She was up clapping and dancing during the show,” the Disney Park guest recalled. “Then suddenly, she collpased in my wife's arms, she was unresponsive, stopped breathing and turned blue. We picked her up and urgently ran down our row, through the doors and to the front of the attraction. I caught the attention of a cast member who promptly called 9-1-1.”
The Festival of the Lion King runs approximately thirty minutes and takes place in the Harambe Theater, where performers and entertainment cast members fill the theater-in-the-round space once the show begins. This configuration makes mid-show exits challenging, particularly from certain seating areas. Disney cast members receive specialized training on safe evacuation procedures and designated pathways for guests who need to leave during performances.
Festival of the Lion King Cast Members Provide Critical Support

Disney cast members immediately stepped into action once alerted to the emergency situation. Their response extended far beyond simply calling for medical assistance.
“They held their phone to my ear while I performed first aid,” the parent wrote. “They formed a human wall around us as hundreds of people were leaving the show. They directed [the] Fire Department to a back entrance so they could reach us quickly. When my daughter woke up they gave her a Simba stuffed animal for comfort. They located my belongings we left in the show such as my wife's bag and phone and our stroller.”
The cast member team maintained the family's privacy during the crisis while simultaneously coordinating with emergency responders. After paramedics arrived, the mother and daughter traveled together in an ambulance, while Disney staff ensured the father could quickly reach his vehicle. A Kilimanjaro Safaris truck provided private transportation, allowing him to follow his family to the hospital.

Guest Experiences representatives also intervened to help the family, providing refunds for pre-purchased Lightning Lane selections and issuing complimentary replacements for future use.
Family Reports Daughter Recovering Well
Medical professionals diagnosed the two-year-old with a febrile seizure, a condition that can occur when a child's temperature rises rapidly due to illness or other factors. The family reports their daughter is now recovering.

Despite the traumatic experience, the parents expressed nothing but appreciation for how Disney cast members handled the emergency. The father took time to formally recognize the team members who assisted them.
“It was a horrible experience for parents to go through,” the Reddit user concluded. “I emailed Disney and named the staff to thank them, and also went back to the attraction the next week to thank them personally. Disney hasn't lost the magic and their business model is to make sure you make happy memories with your family and come back for more. I will continue to happily pay to travel to Disney World in the future. Thank you to all the hard-working cast members who make it the happiest place on earth.”
