Universal Orlando Quietly Reopens Major ‘Jurassic Park’ Area

Universal Orlando Resort has quietly brought back one of the most beloved experiences inside Islands of Adventure, and it’s a change many guests will be relieved to see.

After weeks of restricted access, Camp Jurassic has officially reopened fully, meaning visitors can once again enjoy the attraction’s most popular features—including the climbing nets and water play area.

Camp Jurassic has long been one of the best hidden gems in Jurassic Park. While it’s technically a play area, it’s far more detailed than most theme park playgrounds. The attraction is designed like a prehistoric exploration zone, complete with caves, elevated rope bridges, interactive pathways, and themed structures that make guests feel like they’ve wandered into a dinosaur research camp.

It’s a major draw for families, especially those visiting with kids who need a break from long lines and high-energy thrill rides.

But recently, many guests noticed that large portions of Camp Jurassic had been blocked off. While some areas remained accessible, including the caves, the main parts of the attraction were unavailable. The closure left guests unable to access the nets and water features, which are arguably the biggest reason the area is so popular in the first place.

During that time, Pteranodon Flyers remained open, but Camp Jurassic itself felt incomplete.

Now, the full attraction is back.

With the reopening, guests can once again explore the full network of walkways, climb through the nets, and enjoy the interactive water play space that has made Camp Jurassic such a staple of Islands of Adventure for years.

This update also comes at a time when Jurassic Park as a whole is experiencing major changes.

Earlier this year, Universal closed Jurassic Park River Adventure on January 5 for what has turned into one of the most significant refurbishments the ride has ever undergone. The attraction is not expected to reopen until November 20, making it a nearly 10-month closure.

That kind of refurbishment has sparked rumors that Universal may be planning a larger transformation, possibly converting the attraction into a Jurassic World-themed ride similar to the updated version at Universal Studios Hollywood.

However, sources suggest that this is not expected to happen. Instead, Jurassic Park River Adventure is still believed to be returning under the Jurassic Park name, following the same storyline, but with refreshed elements and updated effects.

In the meantime, Camp Jurassic reopening is a major boost for the land.

With River Adventure down for most of the year, having Camp Jurassic fully accessible again gives guests another major reason to spend time in Jurassic Park. It also restores an important part of the park’s overall balance, giving families something to enjoy while other attractions are unavailable.

For many visitors, Camp Jurassic isn’t just an add-on. It’s one of the most memorable parts of Islands of Adventure, and Universal reopening it fully is a strong sign that the park is making sure Jurassic Park stays a major destination in 2026.
