Gray paint has reached the Liberty Square side of Cinderella Castle as Walt Disney World Resort nears completion of the color restoration project announced last August. The fairytale structure is returning to the color scheme it wore when Magic Kingdom Park opened over 54 years ago.
WDWMagic reported on February 18 that the transformation is continuing to advance across the Magic Kingdom Park icon, sharing a photo on Facebook showing the progress visible from the bridge to Liberty Square.
Moat Draining Nears Completion
Disney cast members have nearly finished draining the moat surrounding Cinderella Castle, enabling painters to access more of the front-facing structure. Despite significant progress on the sides and back, the castle remains predominantly pink when viewed from Main Street, U.S.A.

The project started last month after Disney announced in August 2025 that Cinderella Castle would return to its original blue and gray color scheme. The structure has displayed pink tones since 2021, when it received a 50th-anniversary makeover that many felt overstayed its welcome after the celebrations ended in 2023.

Entertainment Adjustments Continue
Construction forced modifications to castle entertainment. “Let the Magic Begin” no longer features character performers, and “Mickey's Magical Friendship Faire” showtimes shifted later in the day. Mickey Mouse and friends now make surprise appearances in Fantasyland to compensate for reduced morning entertainment.

Disney Fanatic reported on February 12 that nearly the entire back of Cinderella Castle had been repainted gray, with work beginning on the front turrets while most of the structure remained pink from the perspective of guests on Main Street, U.S.A.
The latest update shows continued progress toward the Liberty Square side, suggesting roughly three-quarters of the castle has now transitioned from pink to the restored color scheme.
Project Completion Timeline

Walt Disney World Resort has committed to finishing the project sometime in 2026 without specifying an exact date. The pace of recent progress suggests completion could occur within months rather than extending through the entire year.
