The Next Wolverine Actor Following Hugh Jackman Revealed in New Teaser

Hugh Jackman most recently returned as Wolverine in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, reuniting with Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson after X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), in what became one of Marvel’s most successful and talked-about film releases in recent years.

First introduced in X-Men (2000), Jackman has defined the role of the mutant Logan across more than two decades of Fox-era Marvel films, including entries such as X2 (2003), The Last Stand (2006), The Wolverine (2013), and his apparent farewell in Logan (2017).

Wolverine Will Return

Now, attention has shifted to Marvel’s gaming universe, where Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine has revealed a new look at the project’s titular character.

Developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the upcoming PlayStation-exclusive title features Australian actor Liam McIntyre as the voice and performance actor for Logan. McIntyre is best known for his roles in Spartacus: Vengeance (2012) and the Gears of War franchise.

A brand-new seven-minute gameplay deep dive from this year's State of Play event showcases Wolverine in action, focusing heavily on his close-quarters combat, environmental destruction, and brutal claw-based fighting style.

The footage leans into a darker, more violent tone more comparable with the likes of Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine than previous Marvel gaming adaptations, with the X-Men icon described in the official synopsis as a man “searching for answers about his past” while embracing “relentless determination.” Watch the official new video below:

Insomniac’s Wolverine also exists within the same universe as its Spider-Man series, suggesting a shared narrative that may eventually connect both characters in gaming.

Meanwhile, speculation continues around the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday (2026), directed by the Russo Brothers and scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.

Will Wolverine Appear in Doomsday?

The film already features a large ensemble cast including Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, and Pedro Pascal, with Robert Downey Jr. returning as Victor Von Doom, along with appearances from several legacy X-Men actors such as Ian McKellen’s Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto and Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier/Professor X.

However, Jackman is rumored to appear in the film's opening sequence opposite Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, although Marvel has not confirmed this.

For now, Jackman's return in Deadpool & Wolverine remains his most recent appearance in the iconic role, while his future in upcoming MCU films remains unconfirmed.

Marvel's Wolverine launches on September 15.
