One of Magic Kingdom Park's most recognizable original attractions is getting a visible refresh, and a detail revealed this week suggests the Haunted Mansion will look noticeably different when the scaffolding finally comes down.
The Cupola Tells a Story

WDWNT reported on June 24 that the cupola — the rounded structure that sits at the very peak of the Haunted Mansion's roofline — has emerged from the refurbishment with a striking new finish. Where the cupola once matched the building's familiar brown-beige exterior walls, it now appears in a shiny, dark metal with a green patina, creating a visual contrast against the rest of the facade that the attraction has never had before.
The green patina echoes the Haunted Mansion's roof color — though that roof remains hidden beneath scaffolding and scrim, leaving open the question of whether it will retain that color or change when the refurbishment is complete. What's visible so far suggests a more intentional, layered color palette for the exterior than guests have encountered at the attraction since it opened as part of Magic Kingdom Park in 1971.

Scaffolding has also been set up on the chimneys on the right side of the building, indicating that construction crews are moving through the Haunted Mansion's exterior in a deliberate sequence rather than tackling the whole structure at once.
A steel framework recently appeared on a nearby building that has long served as a queue extension for the Haunted Mansion, suggesting the structure is being expanded as part of the ongoing attraction refurbishment. The expansion appears connected to the transformation of the surrounding Frontierland area — specifically, the construction of Piston Peak National Park in the footprint once occupied by Tom Sawyer Island, the Rivers of America, and the Liberty Square Riverboat.

As Piston Peak National Park takes shape, portions of the Haunted Mansion's rear exterior that were previously tucked away backstage are expected to become visible to Magic Kingdom Park guests for the first time. The ongoing facade work — including the new cupola finish and the extended rear building — appears designed to ensure that what guests see from the new Frontierland area matches the attraction's iconic look.
The Haunted Mansion attraction remains open throughout the refurbishment. Walt Disney World Resort has not shared a timeline for the project's completion or commented publicly on the changes being made.
