Disney Makes Historic Dining Change as Dogs Allowed Into Restaurants

Disney has opened restaurant doors to dogs for the first time at one of its resorts.

For most Disney fans, bringing a dog to a Disney vacation means leaving it at a pet-friendly hotel room or boarding facility. Even at resorts that welcome dogs, restaurants and other indoor public spaces have traditionally remained off-limits.

That policy has stayed largely unchanged for years across Disney's global destinations.

Disney World guests can book dog-friendly rooms at Disney's Art of Animation Resort, Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, Disney's Yacht Club Resort, and The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. Dogs are also permitted at Fort Wilderness campsites.

However, pet dogs are still prohibited from the theme parks, swimming pools, restaurants, and most shared resort spaces.

Disneyland Paris follows a similar model. Guide and assistance dogs can enter the parks, while pet dogs are limited to select cabins at Disney Davy Crockett Ranch or the resort's Animal Care Centre.

Now, that long-standing approach has shifted at another Disney destination.

Disney Resort Expands Dog Access

Hong Kong Disneyland has updated its policies to allow eligible dogs inside several restaurants throughout the resort.

Guide dogs that have completed training can now enter every restaurant across Hong Kong Disneyland, including dining locations inside the theme park and its hotels. The move expands access beyond the limited areas previously available.

The policy also covers assistance dogs that are still in training.

Effective immediately, those dogs are permitted inside the Royal Banquet Hall, one of the park's largest quick-service restaurants serving American, Japanese, and Chinese dishes.

The changes also extend to hotel dining.

Eligible dogs are now allowed inside Star Chart CafƩ, Cloud Dragon Restaurant, Radiant Restaurant at Disney Explorers Lodge, and the Cinema and Art & Design Kitchen at Disney's Hollywood Hotel.

The update comes just days after Hong Kong introduced new measures allowing dogs into selected restaurants across the city beginning July 9.

New Rules for Guests Bringing Dogs

The policy only applies to three eligible categories of assistance dogs.

The three eligible dog types do not require an additional ticket. However, owners must submit the necessary documentation at least seven days before visiting the park or hotel.

Guests must provide a valid license issued by Hong Kong's Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department, along with a certificate from an approved accredited organization.

After Disney reviews the paperwork, owners receive confirmation by email before arriving at the resort.

The original documents must also be presented for inspection on the day of the visit.

Only dogs certified by approved organizations, including the Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association and Hong Kong Guide Dogs Service Center, qualify under the new policy.

Disney has also introduced identification requirements.

Trained guide dogs must wear a working harness. Dogs still undergoing training must wear a jacket or vest while visiting the resort.

Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs and disposing of waste in a sealed trash can.

Hong Kong Disneyland has designated backstage dog toileting areas near the Animation Arts Classroom and the Royal Banquet Hall.
