Hayden Christensen's return to Star Wars has already produced some unforgettable moments, but it looks like Lucasfilm isn't finished reinventing Anakin Skywalker just yet. New information from an exclusive preview of Ahsoka Season 2 suggests the fan-favorite Jedi will return with a noticeably different appearance, adding another layer of intrigue to one of Disney+'s most anticipated series.
The footage remains under wraps for now, but the descriptions coming from those who attended the private presentation have sparked fresh discussion about where Dave Filoni plans to take Anakin's story next.
Fans Want More of Anakin and Ahsoka
One of the biggest reasons Ahsoka connected with longtime Star Wars fans was the return of Hayden Christensen. Following his appearance in Obi-Wan Kenobi, the actor reunited with Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano in scenes that many viewers considered the emotional heart of the series.
The pair's meeting inside the World Between Worlds finally explored a relationship that had previously existed only in animation. It allowed Ahsoka to confront her former master while also reflecting on the choices that shaped both of their lives during the Clone Wars.
Even though Christensen appeared in multiple episodes, he remained the primary focus in only one. That left plenty of fans hoping Season 2 would devote more time to Anakin, especially after his return proved so popular.

Exclusive Footage Teases a Different Anakin
Lucasfilm confirmed Christensen's return during Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025 before production officially began on the new season. Rosario Dawson is back as Ahsoka, while Dave Filoni continues guiding the series as Lucasfilm's president and chief creative officer.
A month later, Disney offered attendees at its Upfront presentation in New York City an exclusive look at the next season. During the event, Dawson also revealed that Ahsoka Season 2 is expected to premiere on Disney+ in early 2027.
Although Lucasfilm has not publicly released the sizzle reel, several attendees have described what they saw. Among them was fandom and theme park creator Juliet Nuzzo, whose social media breakdown offered one of the clearest looks yet at the footage.
According to Nuzzo, one of the biggest surprises involved Christensen himself. Rather than wearing the same costume seen throughout much of Season 1, Anakin reportedly appears with an entirely different look.

A New Chapter
Nuzzo called Anakin's updated appearance a “whole new glorious fit,” suggesting Lucasfilm has once again refreshed the Jedi's visual style.
That wouldn't be unprecedented. Throughout the first season, Christensen's appearance shifted depending on the story being told. He appeared in dark Jedi robes during the World Between Worlds sequence before later wearing Clone Wars armor during flashback scenes.
Adding another costume allows Lucasfilm to explore yet another point in Anakin's life while giving fans something they haven't seen before.
Christensen himself has spoken enthusiastically about that creative approach. During Star Wars Celebration, he remarked, “As much as I love the traditional Jedi robes I wore during the prequels, it was exciting to get to see Anakin with a new look.”
The teaser may also hint that his role is growing. By placing Anakin so prominently in the preview, Lucasfilm appears to be emphasizing the continuing relationship between master and apprentice as Season 2 unfolds.

An Unfamiliar Lightsaber Sparks More Questions
The redesigned costume wasn't the only detail that stood out.
Nuzzo also reported seeing a lightsaber unlike any she had seen in previous Star Wars projects, describing it as something that “does not seem like something we've seen on screen before.”
That's especially interesting considering how many distinctive lightsabers already appear throughout Ahsoka. Ahsoka uses her white blades; Sabine continues to carry Ezra Bridger's green lightsaber; Ezra now has a newly built blue weapon. At the same time, Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati wield their recognizable orange sabers.
The unidentified lightsaber could connect to Season 2's expanding mythology. Earlier concept footage from Star Wars Celebration referenced “the powers of the occult” and “ancient machines from a dark and terrible past.” Those ideas fit naturally with Peridea, the Great Mothers, and Baylan's ongoing search for an ancient source of power.

There is another possibility, too. Teasers shown during Celebration indicated that Huyang will take a more active role in the upcoming season, making the ancient droid another possible owner of the mysterious weapon.
Nuzzo also offered a quick summary of the footage: “More Anakin, more Sabine, more Chopper.”
That description matches where the story left off. Sabine remains on Peridea alongside Ahsoka after finally embracing her Force abilities, while Chopper's return and Zeb's confirmed appearance continue bringing members of the Ghost crew back together.
Plenty of Mystery Still Surrounds Season 2
Lucasfilm has only shared a small glimpse of what's coming in Ahsoka Season 2, but it has already given Star Wars fans plenty to analyze.
Anakin Skywalker's updated appearance, the possibility of a larger role for Hayden Christensen, and the mystery of an unfamiliar lightsaber all point toward a season that intends to build on the foundation established in the first outing.
With an early 2027 premiere still on the calendar, the wait continues, but expectations for Anakin's next chapter continue to grow.
