Universal Officially Moves on From ‘Jurassic Park’ as Dinosaur Franchise Enters New Era

For the original Jurassic Park branch of the franchise, the future currently comes down to one major project: Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA).

Developed by Saber Interactive, the first-person single-player action-adventure game returns to Isla Nublar one day after the events of Jurassic Park (1993). Players take control of Dr. Maya Joshi (Payal Mistry), an InGen scientist who was unable to evacuate the island and must survive dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus Rex, Dilophosaurus, and Velociraptor.

Jurassic Park: Survival was announced at The Game Awards in December 2023, promising a story-driven return to the setting of the original movie.

Its cinematic reveal trailer showed Maya navigating the abandoned park, while a five-minute behind-the-scenes featurette released in August 2025 offered a closer look at how Saber is recreating locations including the Visitor Center and the dinosaur enclosures.

Fortunately, despite many concerns from fans, the project is still alive. Saber Interactive CEO Matt Karch confirmed in a statement issued to Game File (via Insider Gaming) in June that the game remains in active development and is “looking very solid,” although a release date has yet to be announced.

Elsewhere, however, the franchise has increasingly become Jurassic World.

The 2015 movie rebranded the series, while Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (2020–2022) and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024–2025) expanded that new era through animation.

The World branding also dominates gaming, with the Jurassic World Evolution series allowing players to build and manage their own dinosaur parks.

Universal has also embraced the newer name through attractions including Jurassic World: The Ride and VelociCoaster.

Meanwhile, tie-in books, merchandise, and other projects have also kept Jurassic World at the center of the franchise.

The movies remain the biggest part of that expansion. Jurassic World (2015) earned $1.67 billion worldwide, followed by $1.31 billion for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), $1 billion for Jurassic World Dominion (2022), and $869.1 million for Jurassic World Rebirth (2025).

A follow-up to Rebirth is already in development, although director Gareth Edwards recently departed over creative differences. Scarlett Johansson (Zora Bennett), Jonathan Bailey (Dr. Henry Loomis), and Mahershala Ali (Duncan Kincaid) are expected to reprise their roles.

So, the World era is continuing, while Jurassic Park: Survival is the clearest sign that the original branch has not disappeared completely.

The game is being planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
