The days of regularly walking around Walt Disney World theme parks until midnight seem unlikely to return anytime soon.
Disney After Hours is officially returning to Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT in 2027. While that's good news for fans of the limited-capacity event, it also gives us another indication of what regular operating hours could look like next year.
Instead of extending standard park hours deeper into the night, Disney continues to offer those hours as a separately ticketed experience.
Late Nights at Disney World Look Different Now
Longtime Disney World visitors probably remember when extremely late nights weren't unusual, particularly at Magic Kingdom.
Magic Kingdom could remain open until 11 p.m. or midnight during busy periods. Today, a closing around 10 p.m. has become much more common, although Disney still schedules some 11 p.m. closings.
EPCOT and Hollywood Studios have frequently settled into closing around 9 p.m. or 9:30 p.m.
Disney hasn't announced that these will be the exact operating hours throughout 2027. Park hours can change based on crowds, seasons, events, and other operational factors.
Still, the 2027 After Hours schedule gives us little reason to believe Disney is preparing to make substantially later regular closings the norm again.
Magic Kingdom After Hours will run from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m., with tickets ranging from $189 to $209 before tax.
Hollywood Studios After Hours generally runs from 9:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., while EPCOT follows the same schedule.
Those starting times fit almost perfectly with the regular closing patterns guests have been seeing.
Disney Is Keeping Late Nights as a Premium Experience
The appeal of After Hours isn't difficult to understand. Disney limits attendance and gives guests three additional hours to experience attractions with generally shorter waits.
Magic Kingdom's lineup includes TRON Lightcycle / Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Hollywood Studios offers attractions such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash, while EPCOT includes Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure.
But there's another side to the equation.
Disney now has a premium product built around keeping its parks open later. That makes a widespread return to regular midnight closings harder to imagine.
Guests will certainly see extended hours on select dates, particularly during busy periods. However, anyone planning a 2027 vacation shouldn't assume Disney is preparing to bring back the late-night schedules of years past.
The parks are still staying open late.
The difference is that Disney increasingly wants guests to purchase another ticket to experience those hours.
