From 1988 until 1993, families tuned in to ABC every week to watch the story of Kevin Arnold as he grew up in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Wonder Years gave a wonderful look at what growing up during tough social times was like. The show was a hit, and, in 2021, Disney and ABC released a reboot of the show. However, The Wonder Years reboot told a vastly different story. This new show told the story of a young black boy and his family living their lives during the late 1960s in Montgomery, Alabama.

The original series starred Fred Savage as Kevin Arnold, and, while Savage was not brought back for the reboot in an acting capacity, he did serve as both an executive producer and director. However, in May 2022, it was reported that Savage had been fired from the series after multiple counts of “inappropriate conduct” were levied against him. According to insiders, Savage verbally assaulted multiple female crew members and even physically assaulted one. The married actor was also accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a very young female crew member, who he brought to live in his house.

Savage’s firing threw everything up in the air, with many people wondering if Disney and ABC would renew the show for a second season. Just one month after Savage’s firing, The Wonder Years reboot won an acclaimed Peabody Award in Entertainment for “Masterfully altering the comedic premise to expound on the uniqueness of Black American life in the late 1960s.”

ABC also announced that the show would continue on, without Savage.

Now, nearly one year later, we finally know when The Wonder Years will be back on the air. On March 24, ABC announced that the second season of The Wonder Years will premiere on ABC on Wednesday, June 14, at 9 p.m. E.T.

The Wonder Years stars Elisha Williams as Dean Williams, the young boy around whom the show revolves. DulÊ Hill stars as Bill Williams, Saycon Sengbloh plays Lillian Williams, and Laura Kariuki is Kim Williams. Marvel star Don Cheadle narrates the show as adult Elisha.
