Fans of Hawaii and the popular ABC series American Idol can soon enjoy watching a merging of tropical settings and vocal competitions, because Nikki Moreno (the Public Affairs Director for Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa) has announced on the Disney Parks Blog that the singing competition show is returning to Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa for its fifth season as an ABC show (and its 20th season in general)!

According to the blog post, “after earning their chance to become America’s next superstar in Hollywood, American Idol contestants will journey to Oahu to hone their craft under the guidance of celebrity mentors as they prepare to showcase their vocal skills during a concert on Aulani Resort’s beach”. The contestants will be coached by their celebrity mentors in between performing and enjoying Aulani amenities.

In the blog post, Nikki Moreno mentioned that some Aulani signatures like the “Mickey Shave Ice, traditional island cuisine and sushi” or “the sprawling Waikolohe Valley pool area” are popular with American Idol contestants.
The show will then continue with the Emmy-winning producer and TV host Ryan Seacrest hosting the show while the judges (including the country singer Luke Bryan, singer Katy Perry, and singer Lionel Richie) help determine who will be the next American Idol.

The fifth season of ABC’s American Idol will start on Sunday, February 27 and will air on ABC from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. EST. Two of the episodes are being filmed at Aulani Resort, so keep an eye out to “see contestants enjoy a Hawaiian paradise with a touch of Disney magic“!
