Angelina is wearing an olive Balmain dress, vintage Tiffany jewelry–and an eye-catching lip cuff. The jeweller Nina Berenato actually made the custom lip cuff for Angie, and revealed on Instagram not only that she was thrilled about the honor of helping to dress the actress, but also that “we do sell these on our site and they are totally customizable to your face…$50 each & made in 14k Goldfill”. Not a bad price for a gold lip cuff that’s just like Angelina’s!
Although celebrities are often prone to wearing unexpected or unusual things during red carpet events, it seems like Angelina Jolie’s lip cuff was more of an intentional connection to her character. Thena is all about gold and metallic imagery, and has a very intimidating look from what we’ve seen so far, so it seems like Angie is showing both the intergalactic and gold themes from her character’s motif as well as her warrior persona’s edgy, not-to-be-trifled-with aura. This look also reminds us a bit of her gold-heavy look in Alexander the Great, seen below!
Angelina also promoted upcycling and ethical clothing during the Eternals premiere by not only wearing vintage Tiffany & Co. jewelry, but also bringing five of her six children who were all wearing either vintage clothes or Angelina’s old clothes! Her sixteen-year-old daughter Zahara is actually wearing Angelina’s signature 2014 Elie Saab Oscars dress!
Even though Jolie is known for being everything from a devoted humanitarian to a gritty, hard-working action star, she apparently “was very much the “mom” on and off-set, alongside co-star Salma Hayek”. The cast of the movie, particularly the women, formed a very strong bond while making Eternals. Angelina said the following about working with the other female ‘Celestials’: “A lot of times as an actress, you’re that individual strong woman, or you have one sister; you don’t often have this family where you really get to know women and see all the different strengths. Gemma’s grace and elegance and the way she walks through the world. Salma’s motherhood and power, and Lauren’s connection and intelligence. Everybody came as themselves. Maybe there’s something to that, that the characters weren’t as far off [from ourselves]. I think there’s a secret that we don’t know that our director knows, because if you look at her films, she casts a lot of real people as their roles and it shapes her films.”
Co-star Kumail Nanjiani confirmed the strong sense of nurturing that was on set, telling Entertainment Tonight that “Angie, she would not go back to her trailer. She always hung out on set. She was always with everyone. So I realized what you do on camera is only part of the job”. He added that “Salma was the one who would always have dinners and people over. They are [both] amazing. I have learned so much from watching both of them. Just how to be a pro, you know? I was so impressed. They are always on time, they know all the words, they are very thoughtful about how they work and they really wanted to create a family.” It’ll be fascinating to see how intimidating characters like Thena combine with that sense of family in Marvel’s Eternals!
