It appears there is another Disney animated classic that is about to receive the “Live-Action Remake” treatment: The Aristocats.
The news comes from Deadline which published an exclusive stating unnamed sources told them, “an adaptation of The Aristocats is in early development with the studio’s live-action team. Will Gluck and Keith Bunin will pen the script, with Gluck producing through his Olive Bridge Entertainment banner.”
There is no further confirmation of this story, but let’s speculate for a moment on this.
It might seem a bit out of left field, especially since it appears that no one younger than millennials is a fan of the franchise (click here for that full story), but let’s think about this:
Will Gluck directed Peter Rabbit with Jeremy Corden, so we know he’s a successful storyteller when it comes to “Live-Action” movies with CGI animals. Looking at the 50/50 style of filming from the Disney+ Original Togo and the full-CGI incorporation in 20th Century Studio’s The Call of the Wild, it makes sense to predict that all of the cats in this remake will, too, be CGI. Keith Bunin wrote the screenplay for Disney/Pixar’s Onward, so it’s understood that he can pen a solid urban adventure story.
The Aristocats follows the pampered house cats of an old Aristocratic lady–Duchess, Marie, Berlioz, and Toulouse–who are catnapped by a jealous butler Edgar after he overhears his Madame wanting to leave her entire fortune to her cats instead of him. They then come across an old Alley Cat by the name of Thomas O’Malley, and the fivesome embarks on a journey home filled with fun and great jazz music. Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, and featuring the voices of Phil Harris, Eva Gabor, Hermione Baddeley, Dean Clark, Sterling Holloway, Scatman Crothers and Roddy Maude-Roxby, The Aristocats grossed $191 million worldwide and gave the world the classic Disney banger “Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat.”
We at Disney Fanatic will keep our fans updated as more information about this rumored remake comes to light.
