Audiences Allegedly Refuse to Watch Newest ‘Aquaman’ Movie, Due to Amber Heard

After the storm passed regarding the very-highly-publicized Depp v. Heard defamation trial last year, Johnny Depp fans’ focus seemed to shift from dismay about the domestic abuse allegations involving the popular A-list actor to dismay involving the unlikelihood of his return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates 6.

Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard (the woman and actress who filed for divorce from him due to alleged domestic abuse) was mainly famous for her role in the DC superhero movie entitled Aquaman, which also stars a potential “Disney Princess” named Jason Momoa.

Other Hollywood A-listers, such as Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe, also appeared in the CGI-heavy aquatic adventure — but now Amber Heard is back in the limelight in a reportedly negative way, while Depp seems to be bouncing back from the trial!

Aquaman 2 Approaches

In the films, Momoa plays Arthur Curry (also known as Aquaman), and Amber Heard plays the Atlantis royal named Princess Mera.

Mera is also Aquaman’s love interest — and although the original 2018 film did not necessarily impress film critics, it was still a box office draw for DC and a sequel has still been in the works for quite some time.

The sequel is entitled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and some audiences are being shown previews of the film before its theatrical release (which is scheduled for December 20).

An Unsuccessful Test

Unfortunately, it sounds like these preview attendees are not really giving the movie a chance!

Beloved celebrities like Nicole Kidman are still a part of this new Aquaman sequel, and the actor Jason Momoa is still playing his lead role, but viewers are reportedly leaving the theaters without watching the film in its entirety.

According to Grace Randolph in the Tweet shown above, “viewers have walked out of free testing screenings for Aquaman 2.”

Some of this alleged hostility may stem from Johnny Depp’s loss of his Captain Jack Sparrow and Pirates of the Caribbean role due to the defamation lawsuit and Heard’s domestic abuse allegations.

Depp lost his iconic Disney role (even though rumors are still swirling through the Internet about his potential return to that role nowadays), but Heard did not lose her lucrative Aquaman role despite all of the negative press.

Amber Heard has managed to hold onto her Aquaman role during a highly-publicized defamation trial, and a lead role in a DC superhero blockbuster is still a significant Hollywood achievement — but if this report about audiences’ refusal to watch Amber Heard’s newest movie is accurate, then Heard’s infamy may continue to pose a problem for her future film work.
